letter to the editor:

Stop focusing on politics, economy

The recent public demonstrations are not about a black and white problem. We’re not paying enough attention to the high rate of youth employment that keeps youths out of opportunity and leads them to the streets.

This is what we should be following in the daily news and most likely would be if ownership weren’t compromised by a conflict of interest that leads the media to concentrate on politics.

We must seek to end the collateral damage created by government actions that aid big business in its quest for maximization of profits.

Our nation would have an economy without the help of big business, and the nation will be better for it as the fruit will be distributed more widely.

We must force government to act as much in the interest of restoring stability, harmony and trust in the nation as it does assisting big business. Such force has always come from public opinion.

Urge our journalists to put politics and the economy on the back burner and devote attention to significant public discussion regarding our society. We must fix this!
