The Rebel Room

Roster Makeover

It's been a month since the last Rebel Room and a lot has changed for UNLV. Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Taylor Bern get into Stephen Zimmerman's commitment, Christian Wood's departure and more, including Tony Sanchez's efforts to make the Rebels relevant in football recruiting.

The Rebels’ first and last home football games of the season will air on CBS Sports Network, and they have one more chance at earning some national TV bonus money from the Mountain West, it was announced today.

The league released the remainder of its national TV schedule for weekend games with partners CBSSN and the ESPN Networks, which includes ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNews and ESPN Classic. Three UNLV games were picked up, all of them at Sam Boyd Stadium: Sept. 12 vs. UCLA at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 31 vs. Boise State and Nov. 21 vs. San Diego State at 7:30 p.m.

The Halloween matchup against the Broncos, who are on UNLV’s schedule the next two years before getting rotated out again, is slated for ESPN Networks. That means the Rebels and Broncos will find out about 12 days ahead of time if they’re on ESPN/ESPN2, which would mean a $500,000 payout to both programs, or if it’s bound for one of the lesser stations. The kickoff time will also be announced at a later date.

The home opener against UCLA is the first meeting between the two schools and will be the home debut for new coach Tony Sanchez.

UNLV’s game at Fresno State on Friday, Oct. 16, was previously announced as an ESPN2 broadcast at 7:30 p.m. That will net the Rebels $300,000 under the league’s national TV bonus structure.

The Mountain West will announce broadcasts by Root Sports and the Mountain West Network/Campus Insiders in the coming weeks.
