Hurdles in trying to be a good parent

A lot of parents in Clark County are called “deadbeat parents” — a majority of them being fathers.

Many fathers want to be a part of their child’s life and be good, loving, caring parents; but often, the custodial parent won’t let them.

Not only that, but the district attorney’s office labels us deadbeat dads or raving lunatics and tell us to shut up and pay our child support.

I have fought for my son since he was 7. The Child Support Center offers free services to custodial parents in obtaining child support, but if the noncustodial parent isn’t able to see the child despite paying child support, they say: “That is not our problem. Hire an attorney.” They are rude and insulting.

I have prepared a bill, “The Visitation Act,” to present to Carson City and Congress in hope of making it law.
