letter to the editor:

Fuzzy math with soccer stadium

In response to a recent article about soccer stadium funding, Oscar and Carolyn Goodman, the Cordish Co. and the Findlay family just don’t seem to get it. We taxpayers flat don’t want the deal, period.

This deal stinks in any form, including if it were reversed with the taxpayers paying $44.25 million and Cordish and the Findlays paying $155.74 million in cash up front.

Do you think these estimates are at the high end of expectations of everything going exactly right? They will never come close to the over-optimistic outlook they’re trying to feed us.

I for one have hardened toward any tax increase or phony bonds we’re responsible for in any shape or manner, especially if we would be taking $3 million in hotel room fees earmarked for the upkeep of our parks.

Kudos to Las Vegas City Council members Stavros Anthony, Bob Coffin and Bob Beers for sloughing through all the fuzzy math to find the loopholes, and a special salute to Lois Tarkanian for doing what her constituents wanted and standing firm against eye-glazing political pressure.
