A woman who believes she may have been the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident Monday will turn herself in to Metro Police, her attorney said today.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, will turn herself in Tuesday afternoon in connection with the accident that killed a 63-year-old grandfather as he pushed a baby stroller, attorney Herb Sachs said.

Sachs declined to disclose details regarding the woman’s account of the accident until after she turns herself in.

Metro Police said a dark gray Honda Civic trying to pass other vehicles about 11 a.m. Monday on South Rainbow Boulevard near West Warm Springs Road hit Michael Grubbs, who was pushing his 1-year-old granddaughter in a stroller on the side of the road.

The driver was believed to be a woman between 20 and 30 years old, police said.

Grubbs and the baby were transported to University Medical Center, where Grubbs was pronounced dead.

The baby suffered minor injuries, police said.

Sachs said he made arrangements with Metro Police for the woman to surrender. She decided to turn herself in after seeing TV news coverage of the accident, he said.

Metro released a statement today saying that Sachs has refused to provide police with any information about the woman’s identity.

“We have made no deals with this attorney as to the condition of surrender for his client,” the Metro statement said. “This is an active, ongoing investigation. Should we develop information between now and the time of the offered surrender, an arrest of the suspect will be made.”

Police ask that anyone with information regarding the identity of the driver should call 311 or contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com.
