letter to the editor:

Remember past indiscretions

President Barack Obama is not a perfect human being, nor a perfect president. There, I said it.

But I have little doubt he will go down in history as one of our better presidents who saved us from another Great Depression. I’m just so tired of paranoid people blaming this president for every little event Americans have no control over. These people conveniently forget recent history.

Right-wing pundits have accused this president of every crime possible, but they lionize the criminals who occupied the White House in the past. For example, Valerie Plame was outed as a CIA agent because her husband refused to cooperate with the Bush administration by stating Nigeria was attempting to sell yellow cake uranium to Iraq — propaganda put forth about nuclear weapons by the Bush administration to promote the invasion of Iraq. If outing a CIA agent isn’t a crime, I don’t know the definition of crime or treason. Include the fact that Bush’s vice president, Dick Cheney, set a precedent abusing the powers of executive privilege.

During the Iraqi/Iranian conflict, the Reagan administration sold weapons to our enemies the Iranians, funding murderous Contra groups in Nicaragua during the infamous Iran-Contra scandal. How soon these people have forgotten Richard Nixon and his comment: “When the President does it, that means that it’s not illegal.”

Next time one of the conspiracy clowns speak of President Obama, they should be reminded of those criminals they hold so close to their hearts in their hypocritical ideology.
