Letter to the editor:

Election focus will be on Obamacare

I’ve been reading that many Democrats are giddy that Republicans are getting the most blame for the partial government shutdown. They say Republicans will lose seats in next November’s congressional elections.

If we look back at the 1996 elections, Republicans were blamed for the 1995 partial government shutdown but gained two Senate seats and only lost three House seats, keeping control of both houses of Congress.

The 2013 government shutdown will be a distant memory in November 2014, but Obamacare, with its higher insurance premiums, union giveaways, congressional subsidies, lost work hours and staff reductions from companies looking to get under the postponed 50-employee mandate, will be in full force.

Young, healthy Americans (those who will be responsible for subsidizing the elderly and the poor) will pay the $95 “tax” instead of buying expensive insurance, and Obamacare will become a train wreck.
