Regarding the story “Majestic seeking support for off-campus stadium for UNLV football”:
The attempts to acquire $385 million from taxpayers to fund a new stadium is a song sung too many times. If this is a great business venture, then private businesses would be standing in line to sponsor and build it with their own funds.
The new stadium is represented to be a profit-making venture and of great interest to the community. In fact, the taxpaying citizens have displayed very little interest. Also, where in the United State is there a stadium paid for by taxpayer money that provides a cash return? The promoter (Majestic Reality) and major sports team may profit, but the taxpayer loses.
I am a 23-year resident of Las Vegas and I have notice that seldom has the taxpayer been able to vote on these issues. The $1.50 per-trip taxi fee proposed to pay the state’s share is a bad joke. I vote no!
