In response to, “The meaning of being an American”:
Being American means that I can contribute to help form a more perfect union for my children and grandchildren, even though doors have been closed.
I can help establish justice by voting.
I can insure domestic tranquility by being a good patriot and role model. I have provided for the common defense of my country by being an honorable U.S. Navy veteran.
I have honestly tried to promote the general welfare by volunteering my time to many political, church and social causes.
I can secure the blessings of liberty to myself and my posterity by standing up for truthfulness, caring, honesty, responsibility and integrity.
Being American means that I can be judged by the “content of my character,” rather than the color of my skin.
