It is common knowledge that many powerful interests have pushed for Yucca Mountain — which is close to where most of us work and live with our families — to become the nation’s nuclear dump site.
What is not common knowledge is that this push has been defeated because of the heroic efforts of Sen. Harry Reid.
Recently, the powerful Chicago Tribune, in a Nov. 27 editorial, criticized Reid’s efforts by noting that he has gone to great lengths to block a proposed nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain, which would house “dangerous spent fuel from nuclear power plants in Illinois and elsewhere.”
As a Nevadan who does not want my family and friends to live near this proposed dangerous nuclear dump site, my response to the Chicago Tribune’s criticism is: Thank God our state has Sen. Reid!
