Letter to the editor:

Politicians forget whom they work for

How much time do you think our politicians spend actually working? Although we sent them to Washington to represent us, they seem to spend much of their time “grandstanding” in front of a camera or schmoozing with donors hoping they can please them to get their support in the next election.

Our politicians are so fixated on keeping their jobs that they have forgotten their responsibilities to their constituents — who are important every couple of years. Donors? Well, they always come first. Is this what greed has done to our government? We pay our elected officials a great deal of money plus fantastic benefits, but more importantly, we put our trust in them to represent us as they promised.

Our elected representatives abandoned us for the almighty buck. They are not representing us; they’re promoting their personal agendas, ideologies and beliefs. They stop faking concern about their constituents until it gets really close to the next election. They say they are speaking for the will of the people.

Many of our elected officials have betrayed us. Our voices matter every two years. It is important that we let our officials know how we feel today and at the ballot box.

Is it the system, the irresistible easy money, the thrill of unsurpassed power or just the decline of liberty and morality?
