After eight years of planning and a year of construction, the MGM Grand neared completion of a $160 million renovation with the unveiling of its Skyline Terrace Suites this afternoon.
The two-story suites go for $725 a night and include 780-square-foot patios overlooking the Las Vegas Strip.
Designers said glass staircases open up the suite for skyline views throughout the rooms, which also include large windows.
A sound system will play iPods and other personal entertainment devices throughout the suite, including in the shower.
Planning for the renovation began in 2004, but construction didn’t begin until last year, said Tim Kelly, vice president of hotel operations for the MGM Grand. The project included remodeling 4,212 rooms at the megaresort.
“We say it’s been going on for a year, but really it’s been a much longer path to get here,” said Kelly, who added the final touches on the renovation will be made in two weeks.
The MGM Grand is also opening its Stay Well rooms.
They are similar in design to the resort’s other king and queen hotel rooms but are equipped with features such as a sunrise simulator and blue light in the bathroom to help travelers overcome jet lag or wake up after a late night of partying.
A video tour of the room’s amenities is under production, with Deepak Chopra as the host.
“Tomorrow will be a big sigh of relief, because that marks the end of the renovation,” said Scott Sibella, president of the MGM Grand. “It’s been very difficult on our staff, not only because of the construction but also trying not to inconvenience our guests. There’s been jackhammers going off and floors closed, and they’ve had to make sure everyone was taken care of and field all the complaints.”

As part of its ongoing “Grand Renovation,” MGM Grand has remodeled all rooms and suites in its main tower and is adding several new experiences to its lineup including Hakkasan Las Vegas Restaurant and Nightclub, a new upscale dining/nightlife concept (coming in April 2013).
MGM Grand also features a state-of-the-art, non-smoking conference center, the Grand Spa, Cristophe Salon, "CSI: The Experience" and an inviting pool complex featuring the tantalizing daylife of Wet Republic.
Upscale accommodations include The Mansion, an exclusive hotel within the hotel; the luxurious two-story SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand; and The Signature at MGM Grand, a luxury all-suite, non-gaming hotel located adjacent to the main resort.
