The Durango High football team led by two touchdowns Friday against host Valley before they ran an offensive play.
Marcus Williams returned the opening kickoff about 85 yards for a touchdown and Anthony Collins recovered a blocked punt for another score in the opening minutes, helping Durango lead by 30 points before the end of the first quarter in a 51-14 victory.
“We jumped right on them,” Durango coach Matt Gerber said.
When they finally ran a play, it went for a 70-yard touchdown on a halfback pass from Arie McQuaig to Collins. McQuaig added a touchdown on a run and interception return, and blocked the punt Collins returned for a touchdown.
“We scored on them a variety of ways tonight,” Gerber said.
Williams, a senior running back who is committed to Utah, added a pair of rushing touchdowns in helping Durango even its record at 2-2 overall.
