When I first read Mark Weisbrot’s opinion about raising the minimum wage, I thought he was just another liberal trying to give more to the low-income workers at the expense of the rest of the working class. However, after rereading the article, I realized that Weisbrot was very slick in writing the piece. He’s not really trying to help the low-income earners but rather trying to solve the financial problem this country is in.
By raising the minimum wage, more low-income earners will have to start paying taxes. About 50 percent of Americans do not pay federal income taxes; this is a very large section of the population that the Democrats can start collecting money from for more of their giveaway programs. What a great idea!
We all know that the Democrats want to further tax the top 1 percent of Americans. From what I’ve read, this will only mean an increase of about $40 billion, whereas Congress is putting us further in debt to the tune of about $4 billion every day. So although it sounds like a lot of money, it’s really just a drop in the bucket. But taxing an additional 50 percent of the population — that’s where the real money is.
Congratulations to Weisbrot; he’s pretty slick. I’d vote for him in a heartbeat.
