UNLV football will play three of its 13 games on national television, according to the Mountain West national TV schedule released Thursday.

The games include the season opener on Thursday, Aug. 30, against Minnesota at 8 p.m. (CBS Sports Network), a home game on Friday, Sept. 14, against Washington State at 6 p.m. (ESPN) and a road conference game on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Boise State at 12:30 p.m. (NBC Sports Network).

CBS Sports Network is the conference’s rights holder for games and it sublicenses games to NBC Sports Network and ESPN. There are currently 25 games featuring Mountain West teams slated to appear over the three networks.

"This is the first phase of plans for the 2012-13 academic year," Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson said in a statement. "We are working with CBS Sports Network and member institutions to map out regional and local plans for the remaining 2012 football inventory. We anticipate announcing additional telecasts from these efforts in the coming weeks."

Last year, UNLV played three games on CBS Sports Network, one on ESPN and one on Versus. The rest were on the now-defunct The Mtn., with the exception of a game at Washington State that wasn’t televised.

  1. 3 is better than none I suppose, but it's still only 3.

Looks like I'll only be able to find 3 games (most likely blow-outs) this season out of state...

  2. Embarrassed on national TV that is great. Glad I did not go to UNLV and have to hide my head this coming season. I will be watching my school play on national TV every Saturday. Sorry could not resist.

  3. A good start. The big thing is to be able to watch the games in HD.

  4. I guess the nation will see UNLV get their butts kicked three times instead of 13.

  5. So somebody at the Sun made the decision that this article needed a picture of a UNLV player getting run over. Nicely done. Considering the community optimism of the upcoming football season, why to we keep this program Mr. Livengood?

  6. Can they win any of those games Time will tell

  7. Love it 3 games after the last two seasons we've had say's something. The Rebels just might hang. Regardless its exposure and the locals need to realize tv people other boosters and future BCS conferences tracking our progress would like to see us have success. Vegas is an easy sell. Locals seem to suffer from low self esteem. People love our city and would love to see their team play against a quality product.
We just have to improve the product.
