Winston Shepard’s 17 points helps Findlay Prep to semifinal win at national event

Findlay Prep senior Winston Shepard scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting Friday in the semifinals of the ESPN National High School Invitational Championship and the Pilots limited St. Benedict’s (N.J.) to four second-quarter points in a 68-55 victory.

The win puts Findlay in the tournament’s title game, where the Henderson-based school will play Montrose Christian at 11 a.m. Saturday looking for its third title in four years at the Bethesda, Md., event.

Anthony Bennett and Brandon Ashley each scored 11 points for Findlay (31-1), and Nigel Williams-Goss added nine points. Dominic Artis made 10 of 12 fouls shots for 12 points.

Findlay took control of the game in the second quarter when it outscored St. Benedict’s 13-4. The Pilots shot 57 percent from the field in the first half.
