Findlay College Prep senior power forward Tristan Thompson has nearly mastered Shakespeare as well as he figured out Tiny Gallon of Oak Hill Academy. He joined the Pilots late last season to help them belt three foes, including Gallon and vaunted Oak Hill in the title game, to win the ESPN National high school championship and cap a 33-0 season.

Findlay stifles IMG Academy in 113-50 victory

IMG Academy of Florida showed up at the wrong time to play Findlay College Prep late Saturday afternoon at the Henderson International School. Ticked that his Pilots had given up at least 90 points in two of their first three games, Pilots coach Mike Peck vowed that there would be a clamp down.

With star guard Cory Joseph in foul trouble for most of the first half, Findlay College Prep’s 14-point lead dwindled to 13 against Impact Academy with about four minutes to intermission. Pilots coach Mike Peck called a timeout, had some pointed words for his players. They heard them, loud and clear, and closed out the half with an 8-2 run.

It’s a new Findlay College Prep basketball team, which made coach Mike Peck a little nervous Friday night. The results, however, were more of the same as the ESPN defending national-champion Pilots blasted National College Prep, 137-95, in their season opener at the Henderson International School.

The nail of Findlay College Prep basketball coach Mike Peck’s left index finger is in fine shape, as if he just had a manicure. It’s ready for its close-up. Tonight, that might change when the Pilots begin defending their ESPN High School Invitational national championship in their season opener against National College Prep of California.

UNLV target Joseph visits UConn when athlete slain

Findlay College Prep star guard Cory Joseph, who is still considering UNLV, wasn’t anywhere near the slaying of a Connecticut football player early Sunday morning. If a meeting at Huskies basketball coach Jim Calhoun’s home hadn’t gone long Saturday night, though, Joseph might have wound up outside a school-sponsored dance on the UConn campus, the scene of the tragedy, with some of its basketball players.

Nephews of hoops greats follow in famous footsteps at Findlay

The two nephews of the late basketball stars at times feel the weight of the last names on the back of their jerseys. However, Marko Petrovic and Nick Johnson, two of the newest Findlay College Prep players, counter those emotions with immense pride in their surnames. “I’m very proud of that name,” said Petrovic, nephew of the late Drazen Petrovic. “That name left some footsteps in basketball, in Europe and in America. I want to continue that.”
