UNLV’s Karam Mashour drives past Cal State-Bakersfield forward Adam Young during their game Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. UNLV won their final non-conference game 89-57.

Former UNLV forward Karam Mashour is transferring to Morehead State, UNLV coach Dave Rice confirmed Thursday.

Rice announced on April 10 that Mashour, a seldom-used bench player, would seek a transfer. As a sophomore in 2011-12, Mashour played in 13 games, averaging 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds in 3.2 minutes per game.

Mashour moved to Las Vegas from Nazareth, Israel, in 2010 to live with his uncle and play AAU basketball for coach Anthony Brown’s Las Vegas Prospects. Mashour received a lot of national interest that summer before committing to UNLV and then-coach Lon Kruger.

Rice and Mashour agreed that moving on was in the best interest of both parties.

Morehead State, located in Morehead, Ky., plays in the Ohio Valley conference and last year finished 18-15 overall and 10-6 in league play. The Eagles are under the direction of first-year coach Sean Woods, who had spent the past four seasons at Mississippi Valley State.

Former coach Donnie Tyndall, who helped former Eagle Kenneth Faried reach the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, left this offseason to take the head-coaching job at Southern Mississippi.

Former UNLV guard Reggie Smith, who also transferred from the program this offseason, has not yet selected his new school.
