Bishop Gorman and Faith Lutheran pulled off upsets against out-of-state opponents last week. Can Liberty follow suit when it travels to Southern California to challenge Crespi Saturday night? Gorman's got another televised contest, too — against Saint Louis in Hawaii. Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer break down these contests and more on this edition of Prep Sports Now.
If Virgin Valley coach Chris Sawyers graded his team’s performance Friday night against Pahrump Valley, he’d award the defense an easy A.
The offense? Well, let’s just say Sawyers would add a few more red marks. It was no matter, however, as Virgin Valley blitzed its way to a 41-8 victory and improved to 2-0 on the year.
“We played OK,” Sawyers said. “We threw the ball well, but we’ve got to work on being a little more physical in the running game.”
Junior quarterback Garrett Leavitt completed 11 of 18 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 53 yards.
Leavitt’s favorite targets were Dillon Graves, who had eight catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns, and Tyson Teerlink, who chipped in 61 yards and a touchdown on four catches.
Teerlink also managed to record three sacks as one of the defensive leaders. Tanner Killmer likely led the team in tackles and Dylan Parker returned an interception for a touchdown.
Despite Sawyers’ disappointment with the running game, Dee Bowler rushed for two touchdowns and 126 yards.
