Shooting

Metro Police have released a description of a man sought in a double shooting Tuesday morning at Lake Mohave that killed a woman and critically injured her boyfriend.

Police said the suspect is a white man, about 6 feet 4 inches tall and 210 pounds with a muscular build. He had short brown hair, a salt-and-pepper goatee and was wearing a yellow button-up shirt, light blue jeans and tan work boots.

Authorities said the suspect’s vehicle has been described as a tan-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee, with a model year of about 2000.

Earlier today, the Clark County coroner’s office identified the female victim as 42-year-old Rosa Castrejon. As of Wednesday afternoon, her boyfriend, who has not been identified, was in very critical condition at University Medical Center, police said.

Castrejon, whose place of residence was not released, died from a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner said.

Authorities from the National Park Service, Nevada Highway Patrol and Metro Police responded at 9:16 a.m. Tuesday to Six Mile Cove, a beach area east of Searchlight.

A male camper had yelled to another camper to call police Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Authorities arrived to find the male camper and Castrejon face down in the sand along the beach. Castrejon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man, who had multiple gunshot wounds, was airlifted to UMC’s trauma unit.

Investigators determined the couple, who were dating, were camping at the cove when they were approached by the suspect and shot multiple times.

Anyone near Six Mole Cove on Monday evening or Tuesday morning who may have information about the case is asked to contact Metro’s homicide section at (702) 828-3521 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or online at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
