A 19-year-old Las Vegas man who allegedly robbed, sexually assaulted and stabbed a 15-year-old girl to death last month was indicted Friday by a Clark County grand jury.

Javier Righetti is accused of brutally attacking Alyssa Otremba, a sophomore Arbor View High School band student, on her walk home Sept. 2. Otremba’s unrecognizable body was found repeatedly stabbed and badly burned in a lot near U.S. 95 at Oso Blanca Road and Grand Teton the next day.

Righetti is accused of robbery with use of a deadly weapon, first-degree kidnapping with use a deadly weapon, two counts of sexual assault with a child under 16 with use of a deadly weapon and murder with use of a deadly weapon in the Otremba attack.

Police say Righetti and Otremba didn't know each other and the incident was a random attack.

He also has been indicted for a separate crime that happened before Otremba’s attack. Righetti faces charges of attempted robbery, battery with the intent to commit sexual assault by strangulation, first-degree kidnapping, attempted sexual assault of a minor under 16 and sexual assault with a minor under 16 for a March 8 attack on another girl.

Righetti was arrested at his home about a mile from where Otremba’s body was found. Police say he allegedly confessed to both crimes after his friend’s girlfriend called police saying he and her boyfriend had acted suspiciously the night of Otremba's murder.

According to an arrest report, he told detectives he followed Otremba to rob and rape her, then killed her with a kitchen knife from his house.

He is in custody on a no bail hold. His arraignment is set for Oct. 20 before District Judge Leavitt.
