Authorities identify hiker who fell from trail at Mount Charleston

The hiker who was found dead Thursday at Mount Charleston has been identified as 19-year-old Taylor C. Allgeier of Las Vegas, according to the Clark County Coroner’s office.

Metro spokesman Bill Cassell said Thursday that authorities received a call at 10:49 a.m. that the hiker had fallen.

Metro Police’s search and rescue unit responded to an area above the Big Falls trail in response to reports that three hikers were stranded. One hiker was able to return to safety on his own and another was rescued by helicopter, according to Metro’s Search and Rescue blog. The rescue team said the hiker who died fell 150 feet. Initial reports suggested he fell 60 feet.

The cause of death has not been officially determined.
