It didn’t take long for Bishop Gorman High defensive back Togasii Peko to realize the Naval Academy was the place he wanted to play college football.

During a recruiting trip last weekend, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior immediately fell in love with everything the Academy had to offer. He committed to Navy at the end of the trip.

“When you step one foot on that college, you know that is where you want to go,” he said.

Peko was arguably the state champion Gaels most improved player this fall, going from a reserve role last year to an All-Southwest Division selection and one of the vaunted defense’s top player.

Gorman recorded eight shutouts this fall and only surrendered 80 points in 15 games.

Peko will be the third Gorman player on Navy’s roster, joining offensive lineman Sam Womack (2009) and linebacker Evan Palelei (2010).

“I just liked everything about it,” Peko said. “From the brotherhood everyone had between each other, to the program and especially the education I’m going to get.”

Peko also had an offer from Southern Utah. Commitments are non-binding and don’t become official until an athlete signs on national signing day in early February.

He’s the fourth from Gorman to commit. Defensive lineman Jalen Grimble (USC), center A.C. Patterson (UTEP) and safety Evan Zeger (Washington) are the others.
