Metro Police say a pedestrian was killed Saturday afternoon after being hit by a car near North Rainbow Boulevard and Yorktown Road. The accident happened just before 5 p.m.
Lt. Steve Herpolsheimer said the man, reportedly 82 years old, was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to Metro, evidence and witness statements indicate that a Chevrolet pickup truck struck the pedestrian after the man stepped in front of the truck. The driver of the truck remained at the scene.
This is the 65th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
Metro’s fatal unit is investigating.
