Authorities searching the Lake Mead National Recreation Area for a missing swimmer found the 19-year-old man’s body in Echo Bay this afternoon.

National Park Service spokesman Andrew Munoz said search and rescue crews found the Las Vegas man’s body around 4 p.m. in about 12 feet of water.

It appears the victim drowned after getting tangled in underwater vegetation, Munoz said. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name pending notification of family.

Friends alerted authorities about the situation when the man disappeared. A friend said he was last seen at approximately 12:30 p.m. in ankle-deep water, authorities said.

Park rangers do not suspect foul play or drug and alcohol use, Munoz said. The man wasn't wearing a life jacket.

Park rangers and Metro Police’s search and rescue dive team participated in the search.
