Farrell Victor carried the ball 13 times for 209 yards Friday night to lead the host Las Vegas High football team to a 30-25 victory against visiting Snow Canyon of Utah.
Las Vegas only ran six plays in the third quarter but scored touchdowns on two of them to win the season opener. It was also James Thurman’s first game as head coach after more than a decade as an assistant.
“I tell the kids the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement,” Thurman said. “We’ll roll up our sleeves and get back to work tomorrow.”
Quarterback Hasaan Henderson completed 8 of 11 passes for 116 yards and added 96 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
Las Vegas had several players making their first varsity appearance, and while mistakes were made, Thurman was encouraged by the performance.
“We got those first-game jitters out of the way,” he said.
