Coroner identifies Las Vegas man found in Lake Mead

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified a man found Friday morning after he went missing while swimming in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Everardo Jaramillo, 40, of Las Vegas, was found near the shore in about 1 to 2 feet of water in Boulder Wash Cove, just east of an area known as The Narrows. The coroner hasn't determined his official cause and manner of death.

Park rangers began searching the area at 9:19 p.m. Thursday when a witness said the man jumped off their boat as they were in a cove. A few minutes later, the man screamed that he was drowning, officials said. His friend threw a rope out but Jaramillo went under the water.

Park rangers found his body about 9:45 a.m. Friday.

Jaramillo’s friend said he was intoxicated at the time and wasn't wearing a life jacket.

The death was the first of two apparent drownings in four days in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. On Sunday, officials said 25-year-old Andre Battle, of Henderson, is presumed drowned in Lake Mohave after he went underwater and never resurfaced.
