The Durango High football team got more than it bargained for against visiting Clark but avoided the upset with a 28-24 victory.
Julio Mora's 2-yard touchdown run with six minutes to play was the game-winner. Mora had two scores and rushed for 135 yards on 30 carries.
“It was a battle,” Durango coach Gary Maki said. “It turned out to be a very good game and was back and forth all night.”
The game was delayed twice because the stadium’s lights went out. Maki estimates the delays were a combined 20 minutes, adding they came at the right time for his team.
Durango improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southwest Division. Clark is still looking for its first win.

A message to Maki...
The running plays are getting ridiculous. You need to throw the ball more. The plays are getting redundant and I don't know what you're thinking as a coach but you're making some great players look like a second rate team. Getting the ball to Mora all the time to increase his stats is not the way a coach should be. There are some other great players on that team that you should let shine.
