The tough Southeast Division

Las Vegas Sun reporters Case Keefer and Ray Brewer break down high school football's tough Southeast Division. Five of the league's seven teams are part of the Sun's top-10 rankings.

The Arbor View High football team started seven sophomores Saturday against Centennial in the Northwest Division opener for both schools.

When they fell behind 15-0 in the first quarter, the underclassman didn’t panic.

“The young kids go out and just play,” Arbor View coach Dan Barnson said. “They don’t know any better.”

They responded by rallying for a 31-18 victory in improving to 3-0 on the season.

“We were down 15-0 before we could even blink,” Barnson said.

Senior Marco Crete returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown one minute before halftime to cut the Arbor View deficit to 15-10.

“That sparked us,” Barnson said of the interception. “Even though we were down, we had momentum.”

Arbor View closed by scoring the game’s final three touchdowns. Holding Centennial (2-1) to three points in the final three-plus quarters also helped.

Roderick Eason caught a 22-yard touchdown pass and Donnie Gaskin had a pair of touchdown runs to close the scoring.
