Man changes plea to guilty in DUI-related death

A Las Vegas man pleaded guilty this morning in the DUI-related death of Jorgina Ivonne Hernandez in 2008 in the northeastern part of the Las Vegas Valley.

Clyde Raible, 34, who was wiping tears out of his eyes as he entered the courtroom today, confirmed to Clark County District Judge David Barker he had agreed to change his plea to guilty in hopes of a lighter sentence.

Raible will be sentenced at 8 a.m. Jan. 5 in district court. He is currently out of custody on supervised release.

The judge ordered a pre-sentencing investigation to take place beginning next week.

Raible had been set to go to trial on Tuesday for the charge of driving under the influence, resulting in death.

Before the judge accepted his plea, he asked Raible if he understood that it was a non-probationary offense and, by changing his plea to guilty, he would be going to prison and would be subject to a sentence of two to 20 years and a fine from $2,000 to $5,000. Raible said he understood.

Raible confirmed to the judge that his blood alcohol level was above the .08 legal limit he was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe north on Boulder highway the the night of Aug. 18, 2008.

As he traveled north of Boulder Highway, Raible rear-ended a 2004 Hyundai that was stopped at the traffic light at Flamingo Road, according to police.

Hernandez, 25, the driver of the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene and the Clark County coroner's office later determined she died of multiple trauma wounds.
