Cimarron closes season with win, but fails to make playoffs for first time in 16 years

Cimarron-Memorial High’s Christian Brown rushed for 290 yards and five touchdowns on 34 carries Friday in a 34-19 victory against Mojave in the season finale for both teams.

Cimarron finished with a 4-6 record and missed the playoffs for the first time in 16 years. The Spartans, which lost in the Sunset finals last year, only returned one starter (Brown) and struggled all season with numbers and injuries.

“The reality of it is, we’ll return some veteran players next year, but those guys are from a 4-6 team that missed the playoffs,” Cimarron coach Rod Vollan said.

Mojave finished the season without a win.
