A Nevada group is pressing the cities of Reno and Las Vegas to support a boycott of Arizona over its sweeping new immigration law.
The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada wants the city councils to reject any new contracts with Arizona-based companies to protest the law.
"I think our local government should not use our tax dollars to help support the economy of a state that endorses racial profiling," said Bob Fulkerson, director of the Reno-based group.
Reno City Councilman Dave Aiazzi questioned whether the request would have any practical effect.
"I don't know if we do any business with Arizona-based companies," he said Monday. "This request is just PR and nothing more."
Reno Mayor Bob Cashell did not return phone calls.
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman could not be reached for comment Monday. He has said the law could lead to harassment and searches similar to those in totalitarian countries.
The law requires that police conducting traffic stops or questioning people about possible legal violations ask them about their immigration status if there is "reasonable suspicion" that they're in the country illegally.
Critics of the law, set to take effect July 29, say it unfairly targets Hispanics and could lead to racial profiling. Proponents insist racial profiling will not be tolerated.
About 50 people staged a protest over the law Saturday night outside the ballpark of the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Reno Aces spokesman T.J. Lasita said the club would not take a position on the law.
"It is our belief that sports and politics should not mix," he said. "We are associated with a diverse group of players, fans, owners and employees who all hold different thoughts, feelings and philosophies."
PLAN community organizer Mario DelaRosa said his group's request would not affect any existing city contracts with Arizona-based companies.
"We're not asking locals to boycott the Reno Aces because we know that (minor league baseball) is something good for the local economy," he said.
Among cities that have passed resolutions or urged boycotts to protest the law are Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle and Austin, Texas.

Your sensational opening sentence about the "sweeping imigration law" is just that, there is nothing new or sensational about it.
A similar statute, put on the ballot by people here in Nevada, will probably be very popular.
these guys are about 2 weeks late to the party. the whole "boycott arizona" is about as played out as ed hardy t-shirts and nickelback.
All infiltrators must be returned home!
How about a mandatory citizenship validation for employment in Nevada. We all know that thousands of illegals are working in the service industry here. We could end unemployment if we deported the illegals.
well if you boycott Arizona My self and other peiople in arizona will not come to las vegas to gamble.how much will it cost if the people in Arizona don't come to las vegas to gamble????
I can't wait till that law gets to the supreme court. They will probably rule the way they did in 82. That is to say that all people, regardless of citizenship, are equally protected under the Constitution. Whatever they rule, I will back it. Until that time, I support a boycott!
BULL!!! I support Arizona and so do 60% of Americans. If someone crawls under your fence in your private gated community, steal a shovel from your yard and goes to your next door neighbor and tells them I am the gardener here to work on your yard - then asked to be paid in cash when he is finished, he then crawls back under your fence and leaves - is this not a crime? So why when an illegal immigrate crawls under the fence at the border, stealing jobs then send the money back to their home country - WHY IS THIS NOT A CRIME.
I am the son of an immigrant - so is 90% of the United States - but we did it legally through due process! Remember the first word in illegal immigrant is ILLEGAL - go look up the word!
Check those peoples ID's. I will not boycott AZ.
I support Arizona 100%. Looking forward to my trip to Sedona.
I support the law as written and passed by the state of Arizona. If the Feds enforced the law on the books it would not have to be done. But Obama has said that they will not enforce the immigration law. Arizona has done absolutely nothing wrong. On the other hand, Obama and the Director of Immigration have.
I DO NOT SUPPORT, NOR WILL I EVER SUPPORT A BOYCOTT OF ARIZONA!!!!
It seems every few years a new generation screams make the people NOT legally here legal, then do something about the law. If we look at how many have been pardoned or given amnisty since the 1950's when do we say this is the LAST TIME? The argument is allways the same, families will be seperated, well dont cross criminally in the first place putting yourself or those you care about in this situation! we did not make people these people illegal they did by there own choice, now these same people say they have rights? This is not the 17 or 1800's anymore, a line has to be drawn and stood BRAVO for AZ
Let us have the same immigration laws Mexico has. If it is good enough for Mexico, it should be good enough for us. Hey all you progressives out there, wouldn't that be fair? To treat illegals the same Mexico does. Good enough for me.
Arizona has done the right thig with passing Bill 1070. I just got back from Arizona, I was trying to support the state finacially I will never boycott Arizona.
What everyone reading this piece of trash should do is look at all the members of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada
and boycott every member group listed. It is easy to understand where this organizations is comming from by looking at their members. BOYCOTT
Arizona is UPHOLDING THE LAW, and SO WILL I - I will continue to do my shopping in BHC and we're booked at the Grand Canyon for the summer - GO ARIZONA!!!!
I keep reading articles on these minority numbers pushing Boycotts. Why never an article on a Family like mine that has cancelled the vacation we take to San Diego every year and went to Arizona instead. We liked it so much later this month we are going back for another 10 days. We are also selling the one property we hold in California and will not step foot in the State until the traqsh they have running things that have destroyed the State are gone. I have talked many of my friends into taking thier vacations in Arizona as well.
When do people realize that we do not reward people for breaking the laws. If anyone wants to come to the United States then come over here legally. What is the problem with this, tell me. We have legal citizens in jail for breaking laws. The law is the law. If you do not like it you can't just not obey it. When do illegals get to tell, demand rights that they do not have. Why are they comming over here fighting for rights, when they should be fighting their goverment in Mexico where they have rights. Demand your country, President and etc to change and provide jobs, welfare if you need it and other programs. It is not our job or duty to provide you with a living, health or any other benifts. It is our duty to protect, abide by the laws of our land. Its our duty to provide you with food and jail time until we deport you back to your country. FOLLOW and RESPECT our laws and come here legally and we will welcome you. My grandparents came fom Germany, my mother-in laws family came here from MEXICO and my new daughter-in-law came here from Italy ALL of them apply for legal status and follow the laws of the US. We do not want crimmials, drug dealers, gangs from any countries we have enought of our own. If you want the America life then DO IT THE RIGHT WAY APPLY FOR A WORK VISA. Then I will support you. But do not demand or fly your country (Mexico) flag in my face.
That is so simpla and the illegals would have to say "fair."
We should enact Mexican Law..YES!
If the cities of Reno and Las Vegas boycott AZ then I will boycott them, and I live in Nevada. Our civic leaders can not be stupid enough to boycott AZ and give in to this rabib and malignant movement that is going on. Illegal is Illegal, if you are here legally then you have nothing to fear, if you are not here legally then you need to be sent back where you came from. Everyone that enjoys the freedoms of this country legally worked hard to get to where they are, and I will be darned if I am going to let someone cross over the border in the dark of night and try to steal that away. It is happening and it needs to STOP!!! If things are bad where you came from then either stay and fix it, or come here legally, those are your two legitmate choices. Forget AMENESTY. Do it right or don't do it at all.
I am so sick of people whinning about Racial Profiling, and being treated unfairly. Baloney!!! Every other country in the world has stricter immigration than we do, and have even stricter punishments when it comes to finding illegals. So STOP YOUR WHINNING!!!
Arizona had the balls to do what was necessary in controlling the illegal immigration problem. Illegals disrespect the laws of this country and are an insult to those who lawfully abide by the naturalization process already in place. I support this law wholeheartedly and encourage others to do the same. Thank you Arizona for having the courage to do what is right for our country! May you be the example for all the other states who are afraid to do the right thing.
Looking at the photo, probaly 90% of them are illegals. Why don't they just round them up and ship them out? Oh, that's right, the system is overloaded. Gee, I wonder why. This protesting by illegals is getting out of hand! When will it ever end? These people are ruining our country a little piece at a time. I guess tax payers have no say about this crisis. Arizon has it going and I do hope Nevada follows their lead.
We in Texas fully support AZ. I hope we pass the same law.
The--REAL--Fence was never built? The 2006 Secure Fence Act was tabled the same year under a Omnibus act led by no other than Pro-Amnesty, Anti-Sovereignty legislator Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada. The--REAL--fence in the original act was really (TWO) fences. The first Steel and concrete, than a separation of 1000 feet, to be confronted by a 15 foot chain link fence, adorned with a razor wire to halt climbers. Within the n0-mans-land between the two fences, were tracks for the US Border Patrol to engage drug smugglers and illegal aliens. Sen. Reid has been the principal instigator of nearly killing the computer removal illegal worker program and underfunding other enforcement.
Remember this politician when he comes up for re-election on June 6. NumbersUSA for all the factual answers. This is the paramount reason why Arizona's Governor Brewer had little choice, but to enact this policing law. Trespassers are stealing America blind of welfare benefits, that should only be available to millions of Americans-Legal residents--our homeless and 15 million of our legal populace who still remain jobless. Silence from most Liberal oriented newspapers about the thousands of anti -illegal immigrant; pro-sovereignty crowds who packed a baseball stadium in Tempe, Arizona This huge congregation have concluded that, the law in Arizona represents not only this border state but every US state, as 72 percent of America agree with Arizona.
How dare you! How dare the Sun give so much coverage to these criminals. Where is the coverage for the vast majority of Americans who are sick and tired of catering to this filth that is infiltrating our society. Why not take a poll everytime you give coverage to these criminal acts, and find out how many are against this invasion? Three cheers for Arizona for doing what most Americans want done and that is to rid our society of these criminals.

Screw that! I support Arizona 100%! God bless Jan Brewer! She has more cojones than Obama! Someone needs to do something to keep the illegal invaders out!
There will be no Boycott of Arizona from Nevada! Just watch! The "Boycott Arizona" bs is old hat. It's gone out like yesterday's trash. So the illegal alien trash need to come up with another excuse why your sorry butts don't need to be deported now!
Why would Realnormaldude write the following:
"If the cities of Reno and Las Vegas boycott AZ then I will boycott them." Then he goes on to say that he's for the immigration law in Arizona. Realscrewedupdude should be his ID!
The best part about it is, only Ganga and like one other person said to boycott Arizona. Most of us others who posted are in full support of Jan Brewer and the Arizona law that keeps the illegal alien scum out! RAH!!! I love it!!
Go ARIZONA!!! Im from Vegas and I stand with you whole heartedly. I think our problem in this Country is we have to many companies CEO's that want to make larger profits thus desiring a labor source that undercuts our wages. Im for citing every American company $50,000 per infraction per day until we no longer have this problem that has already grown very large. That should be enough to pay off a large chunk of our deficit spending.
hey johnmanrules that look like alot convention to be cancel if they passed that law here
I would start looking for illigals at the above list of companies noted from johnmanrules.
I support Arizona as do anywhere from 60 - 75% of the population. Why, if so many are in support, do we allow those that just yell the loudest get away with this? the other thing is, why are politicians afraid of making a stand? They're illegal, they have no votes! Oh, wait a minute. Because we have been so lax we have allowed illegals to get jobs, get driver's licenses (illegally), send their illegal children to our schools, go to our hospitals, and own houses and vote. Amazing.
And don't those idiots realize who gets hurt most in an Arizona boycott? The very illegals that they're trying to protect...
Delu wrote:I am "just a mother," but these things I know: if any member of my family were threatened physically, financially, mentally, I know it is my clear and guilt-free duty to protect them. As a leader in my family though, I hope it is clear to all of them that my duty is to them, not their neighbors.
We need Leadership that puts us first. Mexico needs Leadership that puts its citizens first. We have neither. What we have is two corrupt "leaderships" siding together against its own people. Mexico shuns its poor (despite ranking #4 in the world for the number of billionaires) and America allows its workers to be laid off and replaced with virtual slave laborers.
Of course we all feel betrayed. But this is NOT about Mexican workers vs. American workers. It is about a complete failure of our leaders to forge better societies, to provide health care, education, direction and opportunity for its OWN citizens.
I don't see a difference between Republicans or Democrats. I am waiting for a lone voice who says he/she will seal the border/ deport/and encourage Mexico to take care of its own. We cannot be the world's safety valve or the American dream will be gone.
the liberal left can't argue with the fact arizona WANTED the law, and there already was a FEDERAL law (that they didn't seem to have a problem with) so they play "race card".
anyone that is against stopping crime (illegal immigration) is the very reason this law is needed.
Thank you Arizona for having the balls to stand up first. The protesters are ignorant criminal supporters and deserve no attention or credibility anyway.
How about we LOCK UP all the EMPLOYERS that are hiring illegal immigrants? I was OUTRAGED when I walked into my local Roberto's Taco Shop and found Mr. White Contractor taking his illegal immigrants for breakfast before they hit the road for some hard labor. The employer needs to be shamed, not the illegal immigrants that are here looking for work.
Do it Sun, put up a vote next time you run an article on the Arizona law. If you don't, then it is clear you already know what the result will be. Judging by the comments here, it would be about 95% Pro Arizona, and you're a left wing paper. Thank you Arizona for standing up for the majority and bringing this issue to the forefront. I am tired of having the few destroy the way of life for the many.
Whats the difference between what the police here in Vegas do already if they see someone walking down the street in an area they deem "high crime area"? They don't have to have NO PROBABLE CAUSE to stop you and question you...if the Arizona law is in question then why does METRO get away with it??

Granted I know we should also punish the businesses that hire these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS but that also plays into POLITICS!!! Who is ICE going to target? Big business(casinos) or the little guy who can't afford the fines?? Remember MONEY TALKS.....and who gives all those donations to the political parties?? I wonder does the union even check for citizenship because we all know they can buy fake papers...as long as they get that dues from ya!!!Check to see what party affiliation all these unions back and you see why they side with the illegals!!!

Simple Solution.....Send ALL immigrates that are not in this country legally. Dig a Moat the length of the Mexican American border. Use the dirt to build New Orleans and then fill the moat with alligators from Florida' Solve 3 problems at one time. Set new qualifying standards to enter this country and ENFORCE them.

screw the boycott, I'll be spending every weekend that I can in Arizona to support them
Oh another thought, did anybody check to see if Vegas gets any power from Palo Verde?
Yeah, Vegas and LA will boycot Arizona, cut our power usage by 20 percent or so, that will hurt them!
Charge a permit fee for all gatherings incuing protests. Check identification of all percipitants. Any violations of our laws should require fines and or incarceration. If here illegally, immediate deportation. They have no rights under any of our laws. Lets force our governemnts to enforce our laws.
I support Arizona, and will be happy to spend money there.
kenodave and mrx, we ran a poll in April regarding this issue. It was posted April 27 and accompanied stories about the immigration issue at that time. Voting has since been closed, but the results are still available (this poll wasn't scientific, of course).
Here's the link: http://www.lasvegassun.com/polls/2010/ap...
Thank you Tim. I am sorry I missed it. I thought it would be a wider margin, but it settles my curiosity. Best, mrx149.
Abolutely disgusting what some of these people post on this board about Americans of Hispanic origin. Yes some are illegal, but the vast majority are not. Your hateful comments are going to get Vegas plenty of negative attention.
But then again, Las Vegas is American with its undershirt showing, and these remarks are proof of what too much meth, too little education, and no common sense do to a community.
Grow up Vegas. You can't move forward by blaming others. You should be trying to pull together, building a community across all lines of division, instead of acting like cowards and thugs.
I think we need a law like arizonas. look at all the illegals at this protest, why wasnt ICE there rounding them up, isnt that their job to arrest and deport those who enter these united states illegally?
America is a country of laws.
You can not just walk in any country and DEMAND
things you want.
Why don't all illegals sign up to become legal as our forefathers did.
Your protests and boycotts will not help you it creates probems for the illegals.
When you boycott a state you are Anti-Americans.
The days of the North and South Civil War are OVER
America is UNITED.
Already booked a vacation to Tucson. I'm an independent who voted for Obama, but sorry, I totally support AZ on this one. I support the idea that states have the right to defend themselves if the Feds won't enforce existing law. I think the notion of profiling is hilarious. When the clerk at Lowes asks to see my I.D. when I pay by credit card I don't freak out that my civil rights have been violated. What the heck is the difference if a cop asks to see my I.D. if I jaywalk or change lanes without using a signal?
Just imagine the tens of millions of Americans (including all legal citizens, regardless of race) that sit at home and fume over these types of protests. I call these people the true "sleeping giants". Be careful what you wish for. Middle class America is slowing waking up.
OG - what blogs are you reading? not one blog was against LEGAL immigration. to much meth, where's that come from. to little education, nv has over 50% dropout rate, guess who's at the top of the list. why is it you support someone here illegally standing up for "their rights", but if a US CITIZEN does it, their cowards and thugs???and common sense seems to be kicking in 'big time', read the blogs.
Get a life OG. This is all about Americans being treated as second class citizens in their own country. Americans are supposed to turn the other cheek while ILLEGAL trespassers use them for door mats. Don't think so. How are we supposed to build that community you want when the other side wants no part of this country and it's citizens only the money and benefits they can rake in and the laws they can flaunt. Time to get out of that intellecual ivory tower you reside in and get a dose of reality. As long as it's only "inferior", in your mind, working Americans it's AOK. What would your attitude be if you lost your "superior" job to an illegal. What if we declared an amnesty and started affirmative action in our colleges for illegals giving them preferences to get cheap or free education while displacing American kids. Those college kids now marching in support of illegals would change their tune once they got shafted.
This current dust up is a minor side show on immigation reform. The real behind the scenes action is to drastically increase the quotas for skilled educated people like engineers, computer whizes, teachers, etc. Employers claim they want to be able to hire the best no matter where they are from. Not. What they really want is to hire people to beat down the wages of the educated professional classes. Somebody who will work his can off and make few demands so he won't be deported by getting fired. It will no longer be just the working stiff getting shafted by CEO's on their march to glory and riches. Time to wake up and support your blue collar brothers you ignorant and arrogant white collar types. You are the ones with the bullseye on your back.
Hhhmmm... let me try that again, lest I offend the staff...
The people pictured above should be concerned more about their portly proportions than other current issues.
Obesity kills, people.
IF YOU WANT TO SEND THE ILLEGAL ALIENS BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM
then
you *MUST* VOTE for the CANDIDATES who will
DO EXACTLY THAT
VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE
BY THE WAY
I have voted....
HAVE YOU....???
All of you people who want the rule of law obeyed, want legal immigration have one huge problem...that is our government officials and President Obama are picking and choosing which laws they want to enforce and immigration is not one of them. Ridiculous!!!!
Hell NO!!! Bravo Arizona!!!!!!!!
This country is going down the tubes while the politicians kick the can down the road hoping a miracle will happen. Illegal immigration is one of those cans. The intellecual idiot pols think that by opening the borders and letting any and all come in it will solve the economic, debt, and Social Security problems. The magic bullet. Not. Since the vast majority of those now here and those who would be coming with reform would be in low paying jobs or in jobs getting paid under the table, how much tax revenue would they pay? Not even close to covering the cost of them being here, just like now. With their lack of any interest in birth control about the only taxes most of them not getting paid under the table would be paying would be SS and sales taxes. No state or FED after their exemptions. But they would be getting health care, driving on our roads, getting welfare and aid, food stamps, etc. Plus us American taxpayers would have to build more schools, infrastructure, roads, etc to accomdate our "guests". More urban sprawl. More pollution. More crime. More taxpayer expense. Bigger deficits or higher taxes. Plus if we increase the quotas for "educated" people Americans in professional jobs will be seeing pay cuts or job loss thus less tax revenue from them.
Our enviro nazi "friends" love to brag about how many power plants they have managed to derail all across the USA. It takes many years or decades of planning, court battles, and construction to get a plant built. If we give amnesty and open the borders where are we going to get the electricity? Ration it? Same with water and gas?
I support the new Arizona law. Mexico's President is supporting a covert take over of the Western United States. Arizona is the first stand is fighting this covert invasion by the Mexician Government. Do your research, you'll see it.
I don't understand why anyone doesn't explain what the real issue is here. I assume it is for politically correct purposes. The reason people support the Arizona law is relatively simple. For the first time in American history people are afraid that the Hispanic culture is slowly overtaking the traditional White Anglo Saxon Protestant culture that has been present throughout American History. They should be scared. Immigration was not as much of an issue in the past because legal or illegal immigrants conformed to the existing culture which was present here. They became Americanized and took on existing WASP culture to fit into American Society. Americans were not afraid to lose their existing traditions and language because immigrants were expected to conform or they would not become American. So do I have a problem with the Hispanic mowing my lawn? Absolutely not. Do I really care if he is legal or Illegal? Not really. Do I care if I need to learn Spanish to get a job so I am more diversified? Absolutely. This is the problem. We are scared and we have every right to be. We do not want to lose our identity in our own country. Unfortunately American multiculturalism ideas which started in the 60's will prove to be a failed experiment in the long run. This is the result!
Hmmm, I live in both Nevada and Arizona. I will start reverse boycotting Nevada. Instead of buying my gas here I can buy it on Rt 93 just inside AZ near Rosie's den there is a Texaco and another station. It's practically the same price if not a few cents cheaper. I will try to shop in Kingman more. I may even cancel this newspaper (at least not renew the subscription when it runs out). I will not gamble here and tell all my friends and relatives back in Illinois to forget coming to Vegas, go to AZ instead. I'm not sure how much good it will do, but this whole thing is REALLY P*SSING ME OFF!
Why are people still confused about this. I live in Arizona. SB 1070 will do zero, zilch, nothing, about stopping illegal immigration. Again, nothing. It's meant as an intimidation tactic to those who are here - it will not stop illegals from coming here. What makes anyone think that a law breaker will be scared of this new law?
Now here's the ironic part that the drafters of the Bill did not research. Holding someone for deportation who decides to fight has the legal right to stay in the U.S. until they get a trial because they are charged with a State violation, not Federal. Now they will be given driver's licenses and can stay here another couple of years at least because they are facing a State charge - not a Federal charge - so the people of AZ will have to foot the Bill of fighting the court cases and the illegal can take away a job since no one arrests the employers.
This has nothing to do with illegal immigration. It has to do with the appointed Governor trying to win her primary election. Brewer gives a rat's behind about consequences and justice and doing what the Feds can't - just being elected is her motive.
So I've decided to drive with my birth certificate to know what it feels like to have ID at the ready to prove I'm a U.S. citizen - the same way a Latino now has to. After reading all the stories and comments from people concerning NV law enforcement, what makes you think cops here are pure and honest and righteous. What makes you think they won't use every tactic they can to tick off people if they don't like the driver. And while someone's house is being robbed or someone is being assaulted, a cop is spending a couple of extra hours arresting a suspected illegal. There is no additional budget in AZ to handle this.
Like I said - this is politics, pure and simple.
mkman, you are totally off and don't understand patriotism. Americans aren't just white, do you know that Americans are all sorts of colors? Americans believe in similiar ideas and want similiar things and believe in rightousness and the rule of law. Americans stick together, is that so bad? Mexicans stick together, it's assumed. You SHOULD be concerned that an ILLEGAL is mowing your lawn, why can't you hire a local teenager or do it yourself? You are saying you don't care about law by saying you don't care if he's legal or illegal. You don't sound American but you do sound to lazy or ****** to learn a second language. Your last sentence makes you sound like a racist because that's what those 60's laws were trying to prevent - racism.
I think everyone should be deported who doesn't have ancestry in the US before 1950. Let alone the over 10 million illegals and their anchor babies plundering our social system dry like health care, education, incarceration expenses, food stamps, everything they can get for free. It's time to start acting like other countries when it comes to people crossing the borders in the thick of night.
The chamber of commerce will back the illegals at every turn. The casinos in this town are too dependent on the cheap labor to make the beds and bus the tables. That is why they never complain about Metro, or their $40 million new headquarters building. They know that they might wake up the next day to find most of their cheap labor deported. Why do only 3 states pay lower business tax than Nevada??????????? Time to get the Casinos in this company town to start paying their fair share. We'll start by demanding 8% of your profits this year and 16% of your profits next year. How about it chamber of commerce? Are you willing to share the sacrafice, or are you going to keep blaming the people who save lives for $22 an hour??????????????????????????/
How is this a "sweeping new immigration law"? It is a law created to enforce the existing laws. This is not an ''immigration" law. We have "immigration" laws in place that have worked for those who choose to follow it. The AZ law is focused on those here BREAKING the law. It is not "racial profiling" even though the majority of illegal "immigrants" are from south of the border. If you are stopped for a traffic violation, etc., and do not have a license, you don't speak English, etc., the officer has the authority to see your green card or papers. The illegal aliens are criminals. They are criminals because they illegally crossed into the US and are remaining here illegally while knowingly breaking the law. AZ has gone through hell because the existing laws have been ignored. Instead of standing by our fellow Americans and empathizing with them, you all want to back the illegal aliens who are the problem. How many of you have actually READ the law you are protesting? I would bet most of you are just following along with the rats in government and the talk show hosts with their own hidden agendas. How many haven't read it like Eric Holder and Janet Napolitano, who said she was against "laws like that" after admitting she hadn't even read it! Boycotting AZ is saying you are siding with the criminals. If that's the case, why don't all of you go south of the border and see how well you are treated down there if you are an illegal alien in Mexico. They don't put up with the nonsense we tolerate. Our borders are a joke, and the fact that our government does nothing to enforce the existing laws and protect our borders is the reason AZ had to make a law to enforce the existing laws. If you are an illegal alien criminal and don't like our existing laws, go home!! We don't want you here anyways. As for Americans who are against protecting our borders and protecting our country, go with them. It seems you are more suited to them and maybe you can help them change things in their country. You can really help them better there than you can help them here.

Arizona should also pass a law to arrest and prosecute employers that hire illegals severely.Exhortation fines and even jail time. This goes for those employing nannies, gardeners, and the like. If there are no jobs for illegals maybe they will go home. Now that is a law that isn't racist.
I support Arizona and their guts to finally do something about this since our federal government wont. Its obviously been a BIG problem for years and years and all these Bean-Dip boycotters can go back home if they dont like it here in the US. My family and I have decided to take our vacation in Arizona this year (as opposed to Cancun.) Instead of just one week we are adding an extra week to spend our time and money in the great state of AZ.. Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tuscon, Sedona. We cant wait!!
"Progressive Alliance," eh? Now that's a fine mob of goonish Marxist trash a la Barack Hussein Obama. I see some "Reform Immigration for America" signs around there..... that's George Soros' Tides Foundation, more crooks, leeches, and assorted Marxist scum. This looks like a typical rent-a-mob to me.
Boycott away. Get down here and take some of these vile border-hopping parasites off Arizona's hands while your at it. And mind your own effin' business when it comes to Arizona's laws. If you don't like it.... LEAVE. Obnoxious criminal Mexicans.
The Arizona LAW, for those who haven't taken the time to read it, but just want to hear (or believe) what the PRO-ILLEGAL, OPEN BORDER folks squeak about, is more protective of immigrants than the FEDERAL LAW - That's fact.
Every state should be SUPPORTING the exact same LAW as Arizona and NOT ALLOW ILLEGALS any "entitlement", plus BIG fines to those that hire them.
All those who wish to support illegal's, (La Raza, Hispanic Alliance, celebrities etc.) should support sponsorship of all illegal's, with their own money NO FEDERAL TAXPAYER FUNDS AT ALL. Work in the LEGAL MANNER of having the ILLEGAL become a citizen of the U.S.A. - Oh yeah and that means swearing allegiance to our country and our flag, not Mexico's..
If they want to support illegal immigration, they need to pay taxes and be a citizen to be able to take a stance, otherwise, move leave the USA.
There is a great site at AZFIGHTSBACK.COM where it keeps a list of the groups choosing to Boycott Arizona's wonderful new law.
It will allow we supporters of Arizona to check the list and Boycott the Boycotters.
Go Arizona ! ! ! !
According to the latest MSNBC poll 94.7% of Americans are behind you.
"building a community across all lines of division"
translation = give money to lazy people that don't want to work.
When we didn't have enough workers to build up Las Vegas twenty years ago, undocumented workers were welcomed with open arms. Shall we throw them out now that they have established homes and families here? A viable plan that includes amnesty for those people already here with no felony records; shorter wait times for citizenship and a more reasonable fee (an average of 9 years and $2,500 per family member is just out of reach for so many); and a guest worker program combined with greater border security would help resolve the problem. We need to work on solutions and not employ the Nazi tactics of demanding papers from anyone with brown eyes and hair. I WILL boycott Arizona and all Arizona-based companies, as I have from the date this atrocious bill was passed. It will be declared unconstitutional (as anyone with a legal background will agree) and then we can work on a system that benefits our country by utilizing the assets these workers bring to our workforce. I will be casting my vote for fairness and equality and not for any candidate that either supports the AZ bill or (horrors!) feels Nevada needs to go through the farce of passing one that is similar, spending more taxpayer money in the courts only to find that it is unconstituional as well. Let's use our brains to build a stronger Nevada and not let emotions rule our destiny.
Many, if not all, of the illegals that cross the US border has no knowledge of the history for the USA. Not knowing the History of the United States of America will develop a person holding on to their ways and customs, replacing American History will their own. Again, the Mexician Government is secretly supporting a covert invasion of the Western United States by allowing the many Mexician Citizens to cross the US borders with full support in escorts, safe houses, forged ID's, Employers hiring illegal workers, Apartment owners and managers renting to illegals. Mexician take care of Mexicians, they are not Americians. Many Mexicians feel deely that the Western United States belong to Mexico, as does Mexico's President and the Drug Lords.
Heck no, no boycott of Arizona! I am 100% supportive of their law. We need it throughout the country. It's time to take it back. It's already incredibly difficult to meet the standards of No Child Left Behind because so many of our Nevada schools are loaded with Spanish-speaking kids whose parents have been here for years without learning a lick of English, and they somehow qualify for free and reduced lunches (70-90% of them in most schools, including the one I work at) and the Three-Square progrm that sends food home with the kids for the weekend too. How much more can we taxpayers support people living off our welfare system?? It's unsustainable.
To join this group of dolts the ability to read is not a requirement, in fact to not be able to read is a benefit since thinking also is not needed just allow yourself to be programed. Place this under Liberals gone wild.
The boycott makes no sense. All it will do is hurt small businesses in Arizona (that had nothing to do with the creation of the law).
We need a law like this in Nevada. We played tourist this weekend on the strip and it was overrun with illegals hawking escort services and hiding on the walkways hawking water bottles. Or should I say the sidewalks were littered with the escort ads that were shoved into people's hands and subsequently dropped onto the ground.
From the picture it looks like 90% of the people protesting are illegal. Before you start boycotting Arizona take a look at Mexico's immigration law and then read the new Arizona law. The rest of the states should do the same as Arizona. These illegals are costing the states too much money for all the free services they get.
To all of you protesters, you are taking a crap on all of the people who did it the correct way. I say get your butts back to your own country.
Look at California, broke because they are afraid to boot the illegals out. I will spend my money in Arizona. Hell they are only protecting ther state because the government won't.
ILLEGALS GET OUT!!!!!
Chad Christensen is doing just that. He needs your vote. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/may...
Why are they all so corpulent? Do they emigrate here to become corpulent?
I've stated the following more than once on these pages but it bears repeating:
The obesity problem is definitely a major problem in the United States. Need proof? Just look at how the "illegal immigrants that just want to do the hard physical labor that Americans won't do" turn into fat slobs by the time they march in their first immigration reform rally. Most of those marching haven't seen their feet in months, let alone work boots!
I love immigrants. I love them so much I married one. But my wife came to this country legally. Why do so many have a problem with coming to this country legally? Because they have no respect for anyone other than themselves. They are weak, self centered and anti-American. If they were otherwise would they break the law? For me I think it is time for a two week trip to Arizona. Spend my money with some true Americans. I am an American-American. That is the only hyphenated American I want to be or be with.
i just don't understand how these people can scream and whine about the rights of illegals while we citizens pay their way to have every right afforded to taxpaying citizens. enough of the free ride for illegals. the only people that support illegal immigration are illegal immigrants or the extended families of illegal immigrants.
If anyone needs to be convinced that the anti-immigrant extremists are motivated by racism, all they have to do is read these comments. In the Sun photo, I look at the group of people carrying U.S. flags and making their point in a legal way.
The nativists who want to rip up the Constitution and exile children and the children of children born here over the last 60 years see brown people in the photo, and since they are brown they must, therefore, all be "illegal." The Arizona law uses the same logic, and that's what it is: racial profiling. The boycott against Arizona effectively reversed that state's refusal to recognize the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. It will do the same with this.
More progressive-regressive BS from Launce Rake. Two years ago they were all carrying Mexican flags. Gee, what happened?
you're all a bunch of jokes. give more rights to a dog (thank you PETA) than you would a human being. Now, give more rights to illegals than you would American citizens. get real.
More power to AZ and the brave lawmakers elected there!
Read the law Launce. It's not profiling except in the minds of the immigrant rights nuts!
Right on jasun!
=================================================
This statement above is just the beginning..
You MUST take back your city..or it will be just another third world mess..like you see in LA..get the LAW...get rid of the Illegals...and you will see that city come to life again..We are insupport of AZ ...GO AZ...
When are you going to realize that ILLEGAL means just that. Come on NEVADA, step up to the plate and get a similar law through here. Start fining BIG time those employers who are hiring ILLEGAL'S and think they can get away with it...
I'm giving Arizona all my support. Those illegal immigrants in the picture go back to where you came from, you're not welcome here anymore. The majority of the people in Arizona (75%+) and Nevada (74%) want this law to keep wetbacks out and give back our jobs.
Arizona ROCKS!
Boycott the US gov't! This nation has immigration laws. Either enforce those laws or change them but don't FORCE the cost of absorbtion onto border States. The FEDs have chosen not to enforce immigration laws and have thus created this environment where border States are left with little alternative than to act as AZ has and others will likely follow.
The moral to the story here is simple, the FED gov't needs to do its job, whether that is changing the laws or not! If these laws don't work, then make laws that do/will and enforce them but don't place this monetary burden upon the States and then complain when they take action where you ( the FEDs) have failed. Inaction is no substitute for the law or the solution dearest FED Gov't.
Boycotting AZ-based business would hurt too many hard-working Americans (who may or may not be in favor of the law). A boycott will make there economic problems even worse and Americans may suffer. I think we are all suffering enough.
Read the AZ law! It is only 17 pages long, including the covers, and 9 of those pages deal expressily with employers and those who hire illegals. It is taken directly from the existing Federal law that is not being enforced.
Everyone of us who has ever been hired in the last 25yrs has had to produce proof that we are entitiled to work legally in this conntry AFTER being hired, regardless of race or ethnic group. That proof is in the form of various kinds of documents, whether you are a citizen or not. It is the need for such documents that has fueled so much identity theft and/or forgery.
E-verify was meant to address that very issue but one of our highest elected officials in this state derailed that. Enforce the existing law and much of illegal immigration would disappear.
LV Lady. You make some valid points in how to resolve this but as a person who is married to an immigrant you are way off base to just give amnesty to those that are here. What happens to the ones that are waiting in line. How do you just allow those to basically cut in line? As mentioned, 50 - 70% of the population support this law. And for those to say that it increases the chances of racial profiling that is just a red herring. They have to have just cause to ask for documentation. If someone were involved in an accident, or was speeding, or caught breaking in somewhere, at that point you ask for ID. Unfortunately, a lot of illegals have fake IDs already.
I think you better think twice before boycotting
Arizona. Nevada is hurting already. Illegal
immigration is illegal. What Don't you understand
about it? Hawaii has the same problem. Illegals
need to come in the front door legally not through
the back door like a thief in the night or day.
Boycotting works both ways.
Send them all back to mexico! If they're not here legally, send 'em back or throw them in prison. I don't care about breaking up their families, they knew what they were doing was breaking the law before they even had any anchor babies, all births of these anchor babies from these illegals, should be voided!
But your elected president will allow all of these law breakers to stay in this country, and even reward them.....
"give more rights to a dog (thank you PETA) than you would a human being".
of course. dogs are awesome. humans are like a virus, morpheus.
Did PLAN request a similar boycott of the federal government when it passed a nearly identical law 70 years ago? If not, is a boycott in the works?
Is PLAN also planning a boycott of Mexico, since its immigration laws are even more severe?
I realize that "consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." But I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Every state in the union should adopt this law. Illegal immigration is the worst thing to happen to the USA in my lifetime. Progressives should be looked at like an enemy.
People can go to Indian Casino in AZ to gamble or see a show...boycott would hurt NV more than AZ
NO AMNESTY, it will only encourage more illegals to come here!!!!
So now there's sympathy for breaking up their families ? They knew that risk when they came here. Besides they know there's sympathy so they start cranking out kids like crazy to play on our sympathies. What's next - don't send a criminal to prison because we'll break up his family? Please! Having said all that, it's not just Mexicans that we need to worry about. There are thousands of OTM (Other Than Mexican) immigrants coming here. A lot from middle eastern countries. Check out this site
http://www.wsbtv.com/video/23438021/inde...
JKE1717 is right....it is MORE THAN mexicans coming across and under the fences and don't think those that caused 9/11 don't know that.
Well at least the protesters in the picture was smart enough not to be displaying the Mexican flag.
They should move back to Mexico. Nothing like a bunch of Mexicans telling Americans what to do in America.
Money seems to talk louder that anything else, with that in mind we have changed our vacation plans to Arizona this year. I see the Governor of Arizona as one who belongs in Washington. I know that my opinion and money is of little consequence in the grand scheme of things. But if there was a collective support for Arizona, it would send a clear message "We have had it with illegals and LAZY federal government officials". The laws enacted on a state level, are nothing more that the one at the federal level. Except they are minus the LAZY Washington enforcement!
Boycott Against Arizona....OH HELL NO!!!!!
here is why I think - In a nut shell this law is destined to fail under a fourth amendment analysis.
Look at the section B -
B. FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).
The term "Reasonable suspicion" is clearly derived from - Terry V. Ohio - where the U.S. Supreme Court allowed for a lesser standard for a stop and frisk to be conducted by law enforcement but only if there were articulable objective facts that give the indication that a crime had taken place, was to take place, or was about to take place - and then the stop and frisk was only for a short duration of time - and for officer safety issues as well. Only then if probable cause resulted to make an arrest or obtain a warrant an officer could do that subsequent. There was no violation of the 4th amendment under those circumstances.
It appears that the cases out there are all based upon one thing - An officer that sees something that someone is doing (something objective) that there is a crime. . . . I don't see how it is that there is any way you get around that requirement under this AZ law - period - Like, Where is the ability of an officer to even make contact with a person in the first place (make a stop or seize that person restraining the freedom to walk away) without there being facts leading up to a the terry stop - not a "mere hunch" Which is basically been rejected " 'good faith on the part of the arresting officer is not enough.' ... If subjective good faith alone were the test, the protections of the Fourth Amendment would evaporate, and the people would be 'secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects,' only in the discretion of the police." -- quoting Beck v. Ohio, 379 U.S. 89 (1964)
So . . . I don't see it - - So then go to the text of the new AZ law - That means that the officer is in "LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL . . .[with] THAT THE PERSON" when he is spotting articulable facts that suggest a person is in the U.S. illegally. . . .i.e. committing a crime that he is then justifiably able to conduct the stop to investigate the immigration status of a person. This is where racial profiling comes in. . .there is no way for law enforcement to that with out using race based factors and or unlawfully stopping people. You need to wake up and stop cheerleading the erosion of our 4th amendment freedoms people. I thought conservatives wanted the cops out of people's business
Arizona is awesome.I totally support Arizona. See how un-american they are, states don't boycott other states.Funny thing is, there are more supporters of Arizona than against, so I think if there were to be a boycott, these law breakers better be careful what they wish for, because they are about to be boycotted, and protesting, telling americans what to do,will help the process to send them packing.
Boycott boycotter's.
let's just boycott every law. bunch of non-sense, just like Barack. "I don't support the boycott.....but I am also not against it" wtf!?. so much for that whole sworn to protect the constitution thing.....
Support Arizona and their new law.
Chad Christensen is doing just that. He needs your vote. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/may......
Actually, for anyone with any sense of constitutional law and established precedent, there is little to no chance that this law is struck down. That does not mean that a court could step out of line. But there is a long line of cases supporting nearly every provision of the Arizona law.
The citation above to the "lawful contact" language is a red herring. Probably the poster incorporated an argument made by someone else at some other time, but it has no bearing on the current dispute. The "lawful contact" language was revised to now read "lawful stop, detention, or arrest." In other words, if the officer is already making a lawful stop, detention, or arrest, her or she may make inquiries into the immigration status if the officer also has reasonable (and race-neutral) suspicion that the person is an illegal immigrant. There are only about 100000 published cases on the concepts of "lawful stop, detention, or arrest" and "reasonable suspicion." So it is hard to see how the importation of either legal standard will render the law unconstitutional.
President Obama, AG Holder, and others have been quick to use the "lawful contact" language as a straw man to attack the law as a whole. Unfortunately, their arguments have little basis in the law as written. In fact, their (and other liberals') mischaracterizations of a law they have admittedly not read is a ridiculous as the "death-panel" claims that liberals mocked conservatives for making. Gross distortions of a law and irrational emotional appeals are okay when done in the name of liberalism, I guess.
What's more, given that Arizona merely codified a 70-year old federal law, it is hard to see how any constitutional claims other than preemption (and that is a sure-fire loser) gain any traction.
Liberals may win in the court of public opinion, but it is extremely unlikely that they prevail in a court of law.
For anyone interested in the actual language of the relevant portions of the bill as enacted, here you go:
FOR ANY LAWFUL STOP, DETENTION OR ARREST MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY OF A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF ANY OTHER LAW OR ORDINANCE OF A COUNTY, CITY OR TOWN OR THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO AND IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON, EXCEPT IF THE DETERMINATION MAY HINDER OR OBSTRUCT AN INVESTIGATION. ANY PERSON WHO IS ARRESTED SHALL HAVE THE PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS DETERMINED BEFORE THE PERSON IS RELEASED. THE PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c). A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE MAY NOT SOLELY CONSIDER RACE, COLOR OR NATIONAL ORIGIN IN IMPLEMENTING THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SUBSECTION EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE UNITED STATES OR ARIZONA CONSTITUTION. A PERSON IS PRESUMED TO NOT BE AN ALIEN WHO IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES IF THE PERSON PROVIDES TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OR AGENCY ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
1. A VALID ARIZONA DRIVER LICENSE.
2. A VALID ARIZONA NONOPERATING IDENTIFICATION LICENSE.
3. A VALID TRIBAL ENROLLMENT CARD OR OTHER FORM OF TRIBAL IDENTIFICATION.
4. IF THE ENTITY REQUIRES PROOF OF LEGAL PRESENCE IN THE UNITED STATES BEFORE ISSUANCE, ANY VALID UNITED STATES FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ISSUED IDENTIFICATION.
I encourage you all to read the law before commenting on it.
http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/su...
I don't necessarily know whether this is a good law or not. We will see. But I cannot stand arguments premised on hearsay and gross distortions. The fact that AG Holder, Napolitano, and Pres. Obama all saw fit to criticize the law before reading it is sad. Such behavior smacks of the type of nonsense that liberals usually condemn in conservatives.
There must be a final solution to the immigration problem. It is time we rounded up the homosexuals, liberals, immigrants and other undesirables. They are invading my trailer park here in Pahrump. I've read about the international Mexican conspiracy in their book, "The Protocols of the Elders of Mexico". First, they come here to landscape our yards and wash our dishes, next they take over our banking system. What will they do next? Take over British Petroleum? God help us -- Gott mit uns!
http://www.usillegalaliens.com/
I know this will sound very racist, but maybe I should start Boycotting all Mexican business, like restaurants and stuff. I already don't watch those all Mexican TV stations ( well I do watch a little bit because the women are so hot and dress scantily). I actually like most Mexicans but this is giving me a bad opinion of them. I wish I could just keep the legal ones and do a citizens arrest on the ILLegal ones, but the illegal ones would probably shoot me or beat me up.
Batman : the reason you watch all those local mexican TV stations is becuz the MEXICANS hv tooken over all local TV stations and hv forced most americans to buy cable or dish TV. I dont want to pay for cable but i hv no choice. 80% of the locals channels are spanish.
i'm telling you right now if the mexicans had there way we'ld all be speaking spanish........they dont want to be part of, they want to take over and there NOT going to stop coming until the USA is just like Mexico. The United states of Mexico.
I'm so sick of this s--t i thinking of moving overseas.
To all stupid states that boycott Arizona, broke, broke, broke from paying for all free benifits to illegals. And they don't pay taxes!
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...
Look at all the illegal immigrants and their offspring, it's no wonder America is so screwed up.
Round them up like cattle and ship them to Mexico where they belong.
Boycott not yet thoust beith boycotted. (What Vegas gonna do? fall back on it's farming? Don't see too many oil rigs. OK Just survive on the Pawn Shops)
GO ARIZONA
Illegal's have no rights, so it doesn't matter what they do they SHOULD be arrested and sent packing with whatever they came with. We just have to stop giving them FREE everything.
Get a big bus, round these people up and send them back to Mexico!
I will boycott any Company, County, City or State that boycotts AZ.
It would be foolish for Reno or Las Vegas, whose primary industry is tourism and conventions, to boycott anyone! Remember how it felt when Mr. Soetoro told the nation that they shouldn't meet in Las Vegas?!?! Nevada's economy is fragile enough without supporting criminal invaders and inviting counter-boycotts! I have already cancelled plans to vacation in The People's Republik of Kalifornia; instead, I'm going to Arizona to spend my money.
Are these illegal aliens worth it? No! Nevada must adopt own version of 1070 to ensure the survival of our state and nation! Either we send these criminals packing using the rule of law, or we will eventually be forced to do so by other means. Which, by the way, many Americans are prepared to do!
"In our own native land, in defense of the freedom that is our birthright, and which we ever enjoyed till the late violation of it -- for the protection of our property, acquired solely by the honest industry of our fore-fathers and ourselves, against violence actually offered, we have taken up arms. We shall lay them down when hostilities shall cease on the part of the aggressors, and all danger of their being renewed shall be removed, and not before." - Thomas Jefferson and Colonel John Dickinson
God bless Arizona. God bless America.
I love visiting AZ at least once a year, this year will be nothing different. HOWEVER, I'll be dammed if I buy anything from any Mexican owned business, IF I think they are illegals or hiring illegals. I'm talking about eating establishments mostly or places that sell "stuff". I will no longer do business with any Mexicans! A boycott of 1 maybe, but my way of starving them to death so that they get the you know what out of you know where! GO HOME, CRIMINALS!
Boycott anything Mexican! They are illegal invaders trying to take over the U.S.
And they can't even fix their cesspool called Mexico!
Go Arizona!
The AZ law was a long overdue necessity! Did any of you know there was a very similar law past 2 years ago in VA? And they have not had one viable lawsuit filed. Where's the "outrage" over that law? Where were these criminals then? I remember when it passed and there was nothing like this happening.
The problem here is these illegals and their apologist supporters never thought anyone would enforce the law, and thought they could just walk all over us forever. This is why they are carping and whining like they are. They are like 3 year olds when mommy finally says enough! They stamp their widdle feet and flail their widdle arms hoping mommy will back off and give them another hug.
As far as p.l.a.n, these guys are nothing more than another publicity hound funded by you and I, and as the other person wrote, 2 weeks too late to join the (un-American) boycotts. These apologist supporters of lawlessness can't even think far enough ahead to realize they are hurting innocent people who may have nothing to do with this issue, and hurting legal Latino's who own businesses. If these boycotts have any effect, do they realize the domino effect will hurt everyone? The elderly, the young, the teachers, Hospital's, UNEMPLOYMENT? When states attempt to harm other states, it starts the beginning of the end. These threats of boycotts are childish and unnecessary, but they do show which states/cities are willing to go under instead of upholding or enforcing the law. Take Cali for example, they are willing to have 25% of their power and water cut. What will happen during the usual summer rolling blackouts? Do they realize those blackouts are nothing compared to IF they lose 25% of their power?
As far as Nevada goes, everyone living in Reno knows that our "leaders" are too afraid to do anything about anything. When the illegals and their apologist supporters protested after the McDonald's raids here, one of them even chest-bumped the mayor! All he did was walk away. There will be no boycott against AZ. Our leaders created the "head-n-the-sand" policy, and turn a blind eye to just about every issue to save face. Cowards, all of them! Nevada needs to step up and get the same law passed or we will see a major influx of AZ plates arriving in no time. Will they do something then? Nope, they'll just tax us even more to support these lawbreakers and continue until we go by way of Cali.
Then what we should do Nightowl, is all of us who support the law move to Arizona. Hey, that doesn't sound like such a bad idea. Then the Mexicans can take over Nevada, and they won't pay any taxes because they want everything for free. Only then will our state officials get off their bums and do something. When their pocket books are empty.
Lets create a lot of jobs, hiring bounty hunters to round up illegals,I will apply. They have to go,they are destroying our country.
I <3 Arizona.... and this paper needs to stop removing all cap letters - maybe the poster has eye-sight problems - it happens, ya know.
boycott AZ? please. i like AZ even more now. good for them for finally taking a stand against all the illegal invader leeches. try making your own country a nice place to live then you won't have to sponge off of the USA.
To Lance: "I look at the group of people carrying U.S. flags and making their point in a legal way."
Every "immigrant rights" protest held here in Las Vegas, needed police protection, closed streets and left a lot of trash in their wake... Never filed for a permit to do so.
You (if you are an American wanting to protest something politically incorrect) would have to post a bond, pay a permit fee, get city/county approval and hire the police force.. THAN protest. But as long as its politically correct, protest away.. let the taxpayer foot the bill.
Add to that.. The fact that "about 50" people showed up to protest... And that makes news?
50 people... We have these size protest every day on the strip... its called waiting for the walk lite to change!
Hey Reasonrules, where you write, "The citation above to the "lawful contact" language is a red herring. Probably the poster incorporated an argument made by someone else at some other time, but it has no bearing on the current dispute." you are wrong - that was my original writing - but apparantly based on some previous version of the law as you note. . so I stand corrected but you are off base to suggest that I don't know what I'm talking about or that I'm ripping off other people's analysis. Moot point though.
This is NOT off topic as it's counter to the boycotts.
FedUpWithThis. What should we do? The first thing that needs done is get rid of Gibbons and vote in Montandon, IMO. If you're in the Reno/Sparks area, get rid of those 2 drunken good-ole-boy mayors. Getting rid of reid is a no-brainer.
Then,
SLAM local I.C.E numbers with complaints till they take the phone off the hook.
Stop doing business with any company you feel has illegal aliens working there.
Whenever you need something done you can't do yourself, tell the company that you will need proof they are not sending over an illegal alien. If they refuse, tell them goodbye and you will take your business elsewhere.
Better yet, ask any business you go to if they use Everify, and if not, leave and tell them why.
We have to start somewhere, but it will also include personal sacrifices, which I do on a daily basis anyway.
@epennpalos:
I apologize if my comments went overboard. I have no reason to single you out. Nor do I have any basis for assuming that you did not know what you were talking about. Point taken.
Unfortunately, I used your comment to voice a general concern about those who are deliberately manufacturing distortions about the law for political purposes. It is simply hard to tell these days when people are being sincere. No personal offense intended.
Notice how the said group in the caption photo are all ANCHOR BABIES?
People this government had no business giving American birth certificates to?
They are here to destroy American sovereignty in my opinion.
Stop birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens.
We are sick of them.
PortTabacco how in the world are they getting away with it? I had my daughter in my husband's country. In order for her to become a dual citizen I had to prove 5 yrs of my life in the Unites States of America thru tax papers, school papers, etc. Why are these illegals allowed to come into our country, pop out their anchor babies, and have them automatically become United States Citizens. What is wrong with this picture? God forbid I was not able to prove 5 yrs of my life, my daughter would not be a dual citizen and be a citizen of my husband's country only, her place of birth.
I hope Democrats keep leading the charge against the Arizona bill.
Only poll after poll after polls shows that a majority of Americans are for it.
Go ahead....drive off the cliff....AGAIN!!!
Why don't they demonstrate IN MEXICO? Mexico abuses its citizens who enter the USA illegally. Why don't they protest Mexico's immigration policies? Police in Mexico are MANDATED to ask for papers and apprehend illegal aliens and imprison and deport them. Why don't these so-called humanitarians PROTEST MEXICO????
NO TACO, NO PEACE... NO TACO, NO PEACE!!!
Of coarse they want NV to boycott Arizona- Its like if the neighbor has called in 'pest control' and the roaches need somewhere to run. Yes, I'm of hispanic descent and I'm also proudly from Arizona. I'm an American born mex/american so my opinion to mexi'cants' don't really matter anyway. To them, mex/americans are viewed as 'gringo' one in the same. But here it is anyway- GO HOME! If you are not in this country legally, you are breaking the law and trespassing. This might be news to the 'raza' but not only is Nevada going to follow Arizona on this, but Utah is looking at the law too. Guess the free ride is over 'roaches'. Get used to it and go home, no need to complain, just go home. If I 'invaded' your country illegally, I would be looking at 10yrs in prison (held for ransom by mex authorities like they secretly do thousands of americans) Your culture is great, thank you for the 'taco' but, I've earned my right to health care and schooling for my kids here in my country. So, adios- dont let the border fence hit you in the behind......
