Day and Night at the Palms

Day and Night at the Palms

Calendars and clocks—both are irrelevant to Vegas partiers. Summer doesn’t technically begin until June 21, but our season for partying all day and night—and into the next day—has arrived. And the Weekly was up for the challenge last Friday at The Palms.

Day …

Checking out the season opener of Ditch Fridays was a must, and on May 7 the venue looked just as busy as last year’s Memorial Day weekend. Said Ditch headliner Sean Paul, “The pool deck, the bikinis, the drinks, the sun—it’s great.”

The bikinis and drinks were great. So much so, they almost trumped Sean Paul’s performance. Though he gave the crowd a full hour-long set—a refreshing change from the Vegas party standard of three songs—the girl-on-girl-on-girl action at the foot of the stage threatened to steal the show. A fan in a red monokini did all she could to gain access to the stage, from grinding with her girlfriends to making gestures of a sexual nature at the security guy (he totally deserves a raise). Bring on the watermelon mojitos, it’s gonna be a fantastic pool season …

… And night

To keep the party going after Ditch, we revisited Rain for Z-Trip’s Revolution. The resident turntablist had only spun at a few gigs since a snowboarding accident left him with a broken collarbone. “It hurts sometimes, but it’s not killing me,” Z-Trip said, showing the Weekly an iPhone pic of his X-ray with metal and pins now holding him in place. “Cool thing, though—it was on the left side. I’m right-handed and could still work on the computer at home. It made me recalibrate.”

Listening to him spin Friday night, you wouldn’t know he’d been injured at all. In front of an at-capacity Rain nightclub (thanks in part to a special guest spot by members of New Kids on the Block), Z-Trip was still rocking the party when the Weekly got word that Manufactured Superstars were doing an impromptu late-night set at Ghostbar. Helloooo, all-nighter. Yep, summer in Vegas is officially here.
