Coroner identifies pedestrian killed in hit-and-run

A pedestrian killed during a hit-and-run on Monday while crossing Nellis Boulevard near Carey Avenue has been identified as 43-year-old Joe Henderson, of Las Vegas, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Henderson died of blunt head and chest injuries suffered during the incident.

Metro Police said at 2:21 a.m. Henderson was crossing the south side of Nellis Boulevard, from east to west, in a marked crosswalk 12 feet south of Carey Avenue.

Authorities said a vehicle struck the man, who came to rest in the center lane of southbound Nellis Boulevard about 81 feet of south of Carey Avenue. Witnesses who saw Henderson in the street called 911.

Henderson was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Authorities are searching for the driver.
