Pedestrian crossing Nellis Boulevard dies in hit-and-run incident

A vehicle this morning struck and killed a 43-year-old man crossing Nellis Boulevard near Carey Avenue, then left the scene, Metro Police said.

Police said at 2:21 a.m. the pedestrian was crossing the south side of Nellis Boulevard, from east to west, in a marked crosswalk 12 feet south of Carey Avenue.

Authorities said the vehicle struck the man, who came to rest in the center lane of southbound Nellis Boulevard about 81 feet of south of Carey Avenue, police said. Witnesses who saw the man in the street called 911.

The man was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead, police said. He was from Las Vegas. The Clark County Coroner's Office will release his name.

This is the 78th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year. Police said information about the vehicle wasn't known this morning.
