Road work prompts occasional closures of Bonneville Avenue

Road closure

Motorists downtown might need to find alternate driving routes for the next two weeks due to construction on Bonneville Avenue.

The street will be closed between Third and Fourth streets intermittently from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting Tuesday and lasting through Dec. 28 while crews install a traffic signal.

Traffic on Third and Fourth streets isn’t expected to be affected.

During the closure, motorists can use Clark Avenue, just north of Bonneville, or Garces Avenue, to the south, as alternative routes.

The traffic signal is being installed as part of a project to convert Bonneville and Clark avenues into one-way streets between Las Vegas Boulevard and Main Street. Bonneville will handle eastbound traffic and Clark will carry westbound traffic.

The $4.3 million project includes removing and replacing the roadway on both streets, installing new curbs and gutters, landscaping, upgrading traffic signals and new road striping, city officials said.

Work on the project began Oct. 13 and is scheduled to end in August 2011.
