HS BASKETBALL:

Strong first quarter carries Desert Oasis girls to win

Team pages

With a commanding first quarter and 20 points from sophomore guard Tatiana Kearn. the Desert Oasis High girls basketball team won its season opener against host Basic, 66-48, on Wednesday.

The Diamondbacks opened the game with 20-2 lead over the Wolves and never looked back.

“Our starters began the game with a lot of intensity, which really set the tone for the rest of the game,” Desert Oasis coach Laurie Evans said. “To have a big lead like that helped us and even with that cushion, we kept great pressure on the ball and stayed focused on trying to stop their best player as much as possible.”

Desert Oasis senior guard Trini Morgan had 13 points, sophomore Sammi Tso had 11 points and junior post Lenzi Kram recorded eight rebounds.

Basic was led by junior guard Kailai Brantner with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while guard Brielle Wilke had 11 points.
