Police: Woman’s injuries in double shooting ‘extremely critical’

Shooting

Metro Police released additional details today about a Thursday evening attempted murder-suicide, saying a woman is suffering from “extremely critical injuries” after her husband allegedly shot her before turning the gun on himself.

Police arrived about 5:30 p.m. to the northwest Las Vegas home in the 6800 block of West Elm Creek Drive. Officers found a man and a woman suffering from a gunshot wound and both were taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where the man died, police said.

The shooting was reported to police by a relative who arrived at the home and found the couple, police said. The relative reported receiving a call from someone requesting help at the home because of a problem, police said.

The couple’s two children were home at the time of the incident, police said. They were in a different part of the home and weren't harmed. The children, both younger than 5 years old, were placed in the custody of Clark County Child Protective Services, police said.

Police said the investigation into the shootings is ongoing. No names have been released.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Metro Police Homicide Section at 828-3521.
