Shooting

A man was killed and a woman critically injured Thursday evening in a shooting at a condominium in the northwest valley, Metro Police said.

Two children, a boy and a girl younger than 5 years old, were at the home at the time but were not injured, police said.

It appears that one person shot the other and then turned the gun on himself or herself, police said. It was not clear which one was the shooter.

The shooting was reported shortly before 6 p.m. in the 6800 block of West Elm Creek Drive by a relative who arrived at the home and found the injured couple, police said. The relative had received a call saying there was a problem and to go to the home, police said. Officials did not say who placed the call.

The children were in the front of the home and the two victims, each with a single gunshot wound, were found in a bedroom, said Sgt. Matt Sanford of Metro's homicide unit. Both were in their early 20s, he said. The relationship between the man and woman had not been determined, he said.

Both victims were taken to University Medical Center. No names have been released.
