A total of $53,718 has been donated to the Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship Fund since the former governor’s death July 22.

The fund was established by Guinn’s wife, Dema, and his family, who asked that people donate money to the fund in lieu of flowers. More than 225 people have contributed to the fund.

Guinn, who served as Nevada’s governor from 1999 to 2006, established the Millennium Scholarship Fund during his first year in office to help students attend public college in Nevada.

As a result of the Millenium Scholarship Fund, nearly 24,000 students have received aid to attend UNLV.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office ruled Guinn died as a result of blunt chest and head trauma caused by falling off the roof of his home. He was 73.

Those who want to donate to the fund can send a check to the State Treasurers Office, 101 N. Carson Street, Ste. 4, Carson City, NV 89701.

People can also donate at any Wells Fargo bank branch, officials said. The account name is the Kenny Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship Fund. Its account number is 1710741958.
