Arrest location

A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after police say he tried to run over Henderson police and paramedics this morning.

About 10:30 a.m., Henderson Police were called by the man's wife to 180 E. Delamar Drive, said police spokesman Todd Rasmussen. The wife said her husband, William Holmes, 39, was in the garage trying to commit suicide, he said.

A police officer arrived and approached the door, Rasmussen said. The officer watched as Holmes ran into the garage and jumped into a 4X4 Dodge pickup truck, then drove it across his property and through a metal gate into the neighborhood.

A Henderson police sergeant and another officer followed Holmes, who returned to his house and drove through the garage and into the backyard, police said. As he drove the truck toward an officer, the policeman fired at least once, but missed, Rasmussen said.

Holmes got out of the pickup and police tried using a Taser on him, but it was ineffective, Rasmussen said. By then, more officers arrived and arrested the man, he said.
