Pedestrian killed

A 55-year-old woman was killed on East Charleston Boulevard Tuesday night and Metro Police shut down the road between Marion Street and Nellis Boulevard for more than two hours.

Investigators said the woman was crossing Charleston from north to south when she was struck near Lamont Street about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. She was not in a crosswalk when she was struck by a PT Cruiser.

The 32-year-old man driving eastbound in the right lane of Charleston has not been charged, police said. The left side of the PT Cruiser hit the right side of the woman, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical crews.

The driver had minor injuries and two passengers were not injured, police said.

Metro's Fatal Accident Investigation team is investigating the collision. This is the 70th traffic death in Metro Police jurisdiction this year.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the woman's identity.

  1. I bet a dime to a donut the driver is an Illegal alien, probably an Illegal Mexican, in that particular part of town. Poor lady.

  2. I'm a disgusted by the display of racism towards aliens. People in this city don't respect traffic laws. I drive everyday on Desert Inn Road and people cross the six-lane road running in front of high speed cars right through the middle. I had to honk at some irresponsible pedestrians myself.
I agree with "poor lady", no one wants this to happen, but this is a problem of the whole community.
If she jumped in front of a high-speed car, you know what the consequences will be.

  3. This article has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Try being constructive.

  4. It has everything to do with traits exhibited in that part of town, and it relates to the person's origins, too.

  5. hey afvet and bigb, where is the article did it state citizenship status for the individuals involved?

Poor white, black, and latino people live in that area - can't you assume it was someone else?

afvet, you would benefit from reading books about diversity and culture. maybe that would increase your acumen related to "racial" issues.

  6. please provide a link.

  7. i bet the pedestrian was illegal too.

  8. sounds like the need more police.

  9. Wow, seriously people? I'd like to know where you'd gotten that information about the driver being illegal, because I know for a fact that the man who was driving is not illegal. Wanna how I know? Because the man in this artical is my older brother. Born and raised in the good old USA. You are being snyde and synical because you don't have to care what effect this has had on my brother and his girlfriend who was in the car as well. I don't know about the pedestrian, but I don't care about the woman's legal status, it isn't a relevent factor. A woman died by a car going 45 miles an hour, in front of her grandson, who was waiting on the other side of the street for the woman.

And all you care about is whether or not the people involved were legal citizens. May God forgive you. The rest of my prayers are for the family of the deseased.

  10. Pedestrians have the right of way PERIOD!! Automobiles have things called brakes. They are very easy to use, and drivers should be driving cautiously and slowly enough around city streets to be able to break and/or avoid hitting pedestrians. PERIOD!!!

  11. I'm not sure if this is well known but it is quite dark @ 7:15 and regardless of the color/race, someone died last night. Or does anyone give a damn?
