Pedestrian killed

A 55-year-old woman was killed on East Charleston Boulevard Tuesday night and Metro Police shut down the road between Marion Street and Nellis Boulevard for more than two hours.

Investigators said the woman was crossing Charleston from north to south when she was struck near Lamont Street about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. She was not in a crosswalk when she was struck by a PT Cruiser.

The 32-year-old man driving eastbound in the right lane of Charleston has not been charged, police said. The left side of the PT Cruiser hit the right side of the woman, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical crews.

The driver had minor injuries and two passengers were not injured, police said.

Metro's Fatal Accident Investigation team is investigating the collision. This is the 70th traffic death in Metro Police jurisdiction this year.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the woman's identity.
