A Las Vegas man who died after losing control of his sedan near Bonanza Road and Apache Lane has been identified as 19-year-old Issac Benavidez, the Clark County Coroner's Office said today.
The death was ruled an accident due to blunt force trauma from several injuries, a coroner's office spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday when Benavidez, driving a 2000 Dodge Neon, used the center turn lane on Bonanza to pass slower traffic, Metro Police said.
As Benavidez re-entered the travel lanes, police said, he lost control of his Neon, colliding with a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado truck. The truck's driver, Alexis Lopez, 19, temporarily lost control of the vehicle, but was able to come to a stop. Lopez and his passenger, Ivan Cisneros, 17, were uninjured, police said.
The Dodge Neon ran over the curb, hitting a light pole, fire hydrant and a fence.
Several bystanders pulled the driver from the Dodge until emergency medical crews arrived, police said. Benavidez was taken to University Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.
This is the 69th traffic death in Metro's jurisdiction this year. The collision remains under investigation.
