It took some time, but Desert Pines defense stepped up in the second quarter and boosted the Jaguars to a 28-7 victory over Valley on Thursday night.
Eric Tuiloma’s interception ignited the Jaguars as they put up more than 400 yards of offense in the victory.
“Our guys really started running downhill after that,” coach Paul Bennett said. “We played very well, overall, and came out focused.”
Senior quarterback Dalton Leilua threw for 128 yards and three touchdowns, connecting for scores with Tuiloma, Noel Darden and Paul Bennett Jr.
Desert Pines led 14-0 at the half and used the legs of Chancellor Davis and Leon Hayes to control the game in the second half.
Both running backs finished with close to 100 yards.
“We played much better than last week, and that’s mostly because we eliminated the turnover ratio,” Bennett said.
The Jaguars improve to 4-3 and 2-1 in the Sunrise Northeast. They head into a bye week before traveling to Rancho on Oct. 23.
