Woman in critical condition after morning crash

Crash Location

A two-car crash in the southwest Las Vegas Valley this morning left a woman in critical condition, Metro Police said.

A 2010 Hyundai Sonata was going east on Peace Way, followed by a 2004 Dodge sedan at about 6:34 a.m., police said. The driver of the Dodge, 27-year-old Elaine Filipo, of Las Vegas, failed to slow down and struck the Hyundai driven by 31-year-old Brian Hodges, police said.

Filipo then lost control of the Dodge, left the south edge of the pavement and struck a block wall and light pole before stopping the car facing northwest across the eastern travel lane near Bonita Vista Street, police said.

Filipo wasn't wearing a seat belt and was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said. A passenger in the Dodge, Fuamatala Sivanu, 33, had minor injuries and also was taken to the hospital.

Hodges and his passenger, 24-year-old Jonathan Isaac, both of Las Vegas, weren't injured, police said.

This collision remains under investigation by Metro Police's Accident Investigation Detail.
