Fatal crash

A 17-year-old passenger in a Nissan Altima who was killed Tuesday night when the teen driver lost control in the western Las Vegas Valley has been identified as Pierino Yohanes Halley of Las Vegas.

Halley was a senior at Centennial High School, the Clark County School District said.

The Clark County Coroner's Office said Halley died of several blunt force trauma injuries when the Nissan crashed into a water irrigation box and a pair of palm trees on Centennial Center Boulevard.

The crash occurred about 8 p.m. Tuesday as the car was traveling on Centennial Center Boulevard north of West Ann Road, Metro Police said.

Police said the car was headed south in the right lane at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to maintain his lane and ran onto the west edge of the road, hitting the irrigation box, a light pole and two large palm trees.

Halley was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The 17-year-old male driver was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
