A father wanted in the Las Vegas homicide of his son after watching a boxing match last month has been arrested in Oakland, Calif., after a car chase, police said today.

Jerry Pough Sr., 53, is being held without bail in the Alameda County jail in Dublin, Calif. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Hayward, Calif., Wednesday on a charge of evading police.

San Leandro police officers tried to pull Pough over at 8:16 p.m. Friday. They noticed that Pough was driving a wanted vehicle, rented from a Budget Rent-A-Car.

The patrol car had license plate-reading equipment with cameras that scanned license plates of parked and moving cars, police said.

Pough took off instead of pulling over, and two officers chased him, police said. Pough drove a short distance along an interstate before pulling over in Oakland.

Driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone, Pough crashed into a chain-link fence, police said. No one was injured and Pough was arrested without incident.

Pough is wanted in Las Vegas for allegedly shooting his son, 31-year-old Jerry Pough Jr., on Sept. 20 after they watched the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight, Metro Police reported.

The Clark County Coroner's Office said Pough Jr. died of a gunshot wound to the head. Jerry Pough Sr., who lives in Oakland, visited with his son and went to a bar in the northeast valley with family and friends to watch the boxing match, police said.

Witnesses told police the father and son had left the bar to return to a northwest valley residence when they began to argue.

Pough Sr. has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is bipolar, police indicated in an arrest warrant. Northern California authorities are awaiting Metro's plans to extradite Pough Sr.
