Ries Elementary School
Clark County School District Police are saying that a 7-year-old boy fired a handgun at a school bus stop this morning in the southwest Las Vegas Valley.
Police said the boy fired the gun while waiting for a bus at the stop.
The boy, along with another 7-year-old, were going to Ries Elementary School, 9805 Lindell Road, shortly after 8:30 a.m. Friday when one of the youngsters fired the 9mm handgun.
The round struck an unoccupied vehicle parked on the street, police said.
Since both boys are 7 they cannot be arrested by law, Capt. James Ketsa of the school police force said. However, police will present evidence and findings from their investigation to the District Attorney's Office, he said. Children age 8 years and older can be detained for an offense.
It will be up to the district attorney to decide if some action can be taken against the children or their parents, Ketsa said.
The incident is under investigation and police have not determined where the boy got the gun, Ketsa said.

This is unfortunate. Is Las Vegas falling apart or what?
for sure, this is an obvious sign of the end of the world.
come on man!! this type of story happens in every major city from time to time. It's not Vegas, it's people in general.
The car was dissing him. The car is listed in serious but stable condition at a local hospital.
.....................
If it was a Japanese car...would this be a hate crime?
.........................
The youngster thought that the progran was "Caps for Clunkers" and he was helping with the Marxist revolt.
..........................
Cars make easy targets when they are not moving.
They are harder to hit as they get moving. It actually takes practice to hit a speeding car.
Unoccupied stationary cars are decent for beginners to work up their confidence with.
With a decent attorney, he'll get off with a plea agreement to a lesser crime.
Assaulting a bicycle would be my guess.
Pretty smart kids,1st they find the super good hiding spot, then they manage to climb up to where the gun is (you know ,,keeping the gun out of reach) then they break the code on the gun lock,,yep ,,pretty smart kids
Uhm, throw the book at the parents! Wtf. Seriously. Parents should be charged HEAVILY and made an example of.
Hah!
When I was a kid we played cowboys and injuns with .22's and live ammo.
Good to see our youth reverting back to the good ole days.
The children are innocent at that age; they're just exploring something "off-limits" and mysterious to them. The culprit here is the owner of the gun.
If you have a gun in the house, you have to take proper precautions fully realizing that your kids and their friends would love to play around with the gun if they could ever get their hands on it.
Why was the gun accessible to the children? Why was it loaded (or was the ammunition also accessible to the kids)? Why wasn't the gun owner aware that the gun was missing? Why didn't the kids' parents notice the kids had a gun when they left home?
It's a relief that nobody was injured in this incident. These stories normally involve a small child with a fatal gunshot wound. There are enough of these stories that people should be aware that it could happen to them. Be more careful with your guns!
the 9mm round coming out the barrel can kill regardless of the age of the person pulling the trigger. You will be just as dead!!! Lock up both the kids and their parents before someone does get killed!!!
Exactly why they need to quit making guns.
Or at least make it way harder to obtain them.
@ rebinreno
I agree. We should always put them on the top shelf, out of reach. Harder for the kiddies to obtain them.
Enough is enough, it's way past time for a handgun ban. No one actually needs a gun.
Isn't Fridays Show-n-Tell, or did budget cuts do away with that?
Parents, parents, parents. Shootings, drownings, heat-related deaths, on and on and on.
Poor kids; Some people just SHOULD NOT BREED.
Next time they just might shoot up some police cars' What you see here is the class of 2019. (NEVADA STATE PRISON)
Ayy ya yay !!
I guess those kids didn't bring their silencers from home.

Another fine example of stupid lawmakers -- setting an arbitrary age which ignores reality.
Mr. Bumble was right: "The law is a ass."
This is so wrong on so many levels
Obviously the grandparents (on both sides) were brother and sister
Bad parenting, pure and simple. First, for not teaching their children that guns are not toys, that the only use for a gun is to kill something, and you never pull a gun unless you intend to use it. Second, for failing to keep their gun safely away from their uneducated kids.
they weren't gang-banging, they were qualifying!

Seven years old?!?!?!? They were 7 years old?!?!?!?!? I cannot even begin to tell you the amount of trouble my 7 year old would be in.
Oh wait, my 7 year old wouldn't have access to a gun.
Was shooting pellet guns at six/seven, shotguns at eight, wasn't allowed a bicycle until ten.
I was so young when I began hunting - dad had to shorten the stock on the single-shot 20-gauge just so I could reach the trigger.
Being a kid was literally a blast.

7 year old ghetto rats running around with guns.
Welcome to hell(Vegas)
WTF. THIS HAS TO BE A SICK JOKE, RIGHT?
Most of you are so cynical and narrow minded, and make jokes about this very serious thing, but then its the USA, where everyone has the right to have a gun, even small children, perhaps even unborn babies have the right as well so they can shoot their way out of the womb, you are SO sick.

More candidates for "Parents of the Year" awards!!!!
Gmag39 : I am in complete agreement with you. Today's downward spiral of the family unit is completely to blame for all of these tragedies involving children we read about. The parents (if you could call them that) are to blame for failure to protect these kids from danger. I say throw the book at 'em and show NO mercy!!
AMEN, environprotector.
These chillun was raised on Meth and government cheese.
..."haven't determined where they got the gun..."
Where else...they bought it at the GUN SHOW!!! ID, what ID?
does not matter what state you are in.
this story is just wrong on so many levels!
Its just HUD moving all those Chapter 8 subsidized residents into what probably used to be an OK neighborhood, just like that area up around Hollywood/Los Feliz and Lake Mead, nice view of Las Vegas, then along comes all that development and Chapter 8s' in the 90s' and now alot of that neck of the woods is pretty dangerous too, just like any other Chapter 8 ghetto one wants to visit here in town.
liberals and their limp-wristed attitude have created a world where there is no real deterrent to crime anymore.
vote for family.
vote for safety.
vote republican.
Future Metro cadets in training!
They should stop making guns? Um... Really?!? LMAO Some people SHOULD be shot... for stupidity.
uddecrap or whatever your meatball name is. STOP COMMENTING ON AMERICA WHEN YOU DON'T LIVE HERE. Stick to your Sweden country, meatball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, ban guns. Then you can try to take the bad guy's KNIFE away. Ever in a knife fight? Not me, that's why I have a gun. Cinderella, put down that fairy tale book and realize there will ALWAYS be criminals that want to hurt you. Maybe they'll use a baseball bat, or just gang up on you and kick your head in. Maybe you want to talk to them about their problems and suggest a different profession, I'd rather defend myself. From 20 feet away preferably. (That's approximately the distance a knife holding criminal can travel in just a few seconds).
Too bad some of those victims in Ft. Hood didn't have access to a gun. There would have been fewer fatalities, with the exception of the bad guy. He'd be dead. But Army regulations prohibited carrying weapons for defense on base. THAT is what's crazy.
And yes, the owner of the gun those kids had should be punished. Rule #1--Never let your gun out of your own control. 2. Rule #2--Never let crybaby liberals take your gun away. (Same as rule #1-keep control of your gun!). Thankfully no one was hurt because of an irresponsible gun owner. And thankfully there are thousands more responsible, safe, & conscientious gun owners out there.
And now the crybabies can attack, I can defend myself.
NO MORE GUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What are my liberal friends gonna do when somebody has a gun pointed at them? Tell them no more guns or guns are illegal? Bang, bang. Guess you were wrong!!!!!!!!

That would solve the problems, but as you have a very strange ruling about ""The Right to own a Gun"" which dates back more than 200 yrs, when it was most likely the only way to survive, so why should this ruling be valid today. I can understand the right to own a hunting gun of big caliber, just as long as these weapons are locked up all the time they are not used for hunting, not carried in almost every pickup in the USA today
uddecrap, shut the f##k up, you swedish MEATBALL. Nobody wants to hear your Swedish crap. Go have some tea.
GUNS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. Bad parents or unattentive parents are. Banning guns will not fix this problem. Making guns harder to get wont fix this problem. Parents having a little more situational awareness of what their children are doing will fix this. Im a Gun owner with a license to legally carry a firearm on my person in the civilian world, you dont see me shooting up cars, liquour stores or anything else except a range. IM also a parent, and you best believe my son will not have access to my firearm at any time unless he and I are together at the range.
SteveM.....You forgot to include John Ensign
For all the anti-gun freaks,,,Why dont you get together and come and take mine....Pack a lunch,,as it will be an all day job....for you,, not me......As for the parents of these kids,, they are lucky it was a car and not a person that was shot..Some people shouldnt have kids if your not able to teach them properly....It was propably stashed in the frosted flakes box,,along with the meth,,and the crack.......................
