American Hockey League veteran Francis Lemieux is heading to Las Vegas, according to a report by the Grand Rapids Press.

The Grand Rapids Griffins loaned the 25-year-old forward to the Wranglers Monday night.

From 2005-08, Lemieux posted 63 points in 144 games with the 2007 Calder Cup champion Hamilton Bulldogs. He split the 2007-08 season between Hamilton and Grand Rapids.

Last season Lemieux notched 13 goals, 16 assists and 48 penalty minutes in 58 games with the Griffins.

This year Lemieux has struggled with the flu and a back injury as he has recorded just one point in five games. He has been a healthy scratch for the past three games.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward should join the Wranglers for Tuesday night's game against Utah at 7 p.m. at the Orleans Arena.

Discussion: 3 comments so far…

  1. Whats the advantage of him playing with the Wranglers?

  2. The Red Wings organization probably wants to get him ice time. Lemieux is a once very promising prospect, so perhaps he can gain some confidence down here before moving back up.

  3. As a healthy scratch for the last three games, he needs to get on the ice. This sounds more like a rehab assignment until Grand Rapids has a roster spot open from a call up.
