Police standoff

A North Las Vegas Justice Court judge ordered a woman involved in a standoff with police earlier this month to undergo psychiatric evaluation to determine if she is competent to stand trial.

Carla Eagleton held police at bay for more than five hours on the morning of June 5 after firing several shots at them.

She appeared in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing. Judge Stephen Dahl reset the hearing for July 17.

When North Las Vegas Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at about 6:15 a.m. in the 3500 block of Coleman Street, police said Eagleton, 52, ran inside the house with her 10-year-old grandson. About an hour into the standoff, she released the boy, unharmed.

No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire, police said.

North Las Vegas SWAT Team officers took Eagleton into custody after the standoff.

She is being held in the North Las Vegas Detention Center on two counts of attempted murder and one count of felony domestic battery with a deadly weapon.
